I picked up this Bud from Chris Ledrew, who didn't have it very long, just over a month ago. Very exciting! It arrived quite dirty, with a lot of built-up gunk, and not playing all that smoothly. Of course, I was expecting this. After about 60 hours of cleaning, filing, sanding, buffing, polishing, protecting and adjusting, it's performing pretty great! What was once a gross pile of rags, chemicals and tiny bits all over the kitchen table, not to mention a source of obsession and insomnia, is now a smooth-playing, totally delicious sounding steel.
I'd really like to publicly acknowledge the incredible James Morehead for his help on this project. I would have never been able to bring such a fantastic instrument out of hibernation without his seemingly endless assistance, guidance and support.
Thanks a million, James!
Here's some before and after pics. It's still a bit of a work in progress, but I'm most likely going to start gigging with it next week. Hoorah!

Nice floors indeed. That's the music store I work in; it's an old church, and they had covered the hardwood with 4 layers of gross carpet... |

Fabulous, Marc! I'm so glad you were able to fix it up and make it sparkle. It should give you years of playing enjoyment now. It deserved an overhaul. I just wasn't able to take on the task with my heavy schedule. Congrats!! _________________ Jackson Steel Guitars

Hey Marc, fantastic job, my friend!! And thanx for the kind words. These guitars are soooo underated, it's unbelievable. They are really a tone monster, a real sleeper. And with good cleaning, and a proper setup, can take on all the copedant you need. And now you have the personal pride of knowing your guitar inside and out. |

It's lucky that Shobud's have a reputation for good tone, as it's obvious from these and other photos that they were built to a price.
Nothing wrong with that, every business has to be profitable.
The rack system can be tooled up, and made rip-rap on a power press, which is obviously much quicker (and cheaper) than individual bell-cranks.
What the rack system gained in productivity at the factory, it lost in flexibility (there are no multiple positions like on a bell-crank to fine-tune raises etc) |

I've yet to find a "limit" on my rack & barrel Professional, for the music I play. I believe the barrels would compare with multiple holes in a puller, no? |
