I just downloaded this app to my iPod this morning:

http://www.yonac.com/software/steelguitar/index.html

I haven't had a chance to do much with it, but it's hard to really complain about an app dedicated to emulating a steel guitar. It certainly has plenty of options (different tunings, bending, amps, etc.). It sounds more like a harpsichord than a steel guitar to me, but then again it's still pretty cool to have a pocket steel guitar.

Here's a link to a demo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPXGloBYi4k

I wish the demo would have shown more of the capabilities and options rather than one song.

Anyway, I thought ya'll might be interested. Oh yeah, it emulates a 10 string pedal steel as well.

Great. Now I have to get an iPhone. That's too cool. Thanks for posting.

Steel guitar builders everywhere are shaking in their shoes...a "killer app" indeed-no need to change strings, easy to haul, always in tune...and sounds so realistic! Laughing

You don't need and iPhone. The new Apple " iTouch" iPod works the same way, but without the phone.

Looks like a terrific app, and only $.99.

It even emulates a real drummer with bad time.

hey that was my idea Smile

well, for $1.99 (price went up) it's sorta fun. Ain't no steel. It could evolve into a useful tool for learning - like experimenting with tunings, copedants, finding chords and scales.

As iPhone apps go, the 1.0 version usually sucks, then with updates things get better. Send them feedback for features and functions.

Like
- have presets for tunings by artist? ie. select 'sneaky pete' and the tuning snaps to that, would be a great way to have info documented.
- let you save a couple 'user' tunings, right now it wont' (that I can find)
- perhaps even string guage ranges for tunings?
- the coolest would be a steel guitar 'chord finder' like 'Chordmaster' iPhone guitar app by Planet Waves Smile Type set your guitar, tuning and copedant, then type in a chord name and it would show inversions and pedals needed. That would be worth $1.99
