Broadcast live on SteelRadio.com direct from the Chouteau Room. of the beautiful Millennium Hotel. The actual day and times has to be decided on.

BARBARA MANDRELL will be present as a non performing artist. We are expecting more country and western singers to join us. They are just not confirmed as yet.

Astronaut STEVE ROBINSON will have a booth and will bring a banner to have as many signatures as the banner will accommodate and will take them into Outer Space when he departs this earth aboard the Discovery Shuttle in January. Note: we will need some volunteers to help Steve man the booth as he doesn't arrive until late Friday night. Anyone want to help him out? (Good news! I have already received two names that are willing to help man the booth!)

I have not proofread this email so forgive me if I have left a word or two out. There still be some changes in this schedule. See you in St. Louis. Your hosts - Scotty, Mary and the Scott families.

I was hoping Smiley Roberts was playing this year..Nice to Hank Corwin on the list..David Hartly would be nice for the international spot light..Great to see Lynn Owsley will be playing after what he has just been through...I have always enjoyed the convention and the very little sleep from Fri to Sunday..LOL

Smiley's Not Listed and Neither is Lloyd Green

Post by John Floyd »

There are some lesser qualified players listed and that is puzzling?

John, there's always schedule conflicts that can't be worked around. I'd like to see Smiley and Lloyd too, but I'm also glad that I'll get to hear some players that I've heard about but never heard. It looks like a killer show to me.

Schedule

Post by DeWitt Scott »

My response to John about "less qualified" players being on the show. I assure you that ALL of the players selected are the highest quality in their own right. Players that are not on the schedule - all have their reasons why they cannot attend and some do not get invited as there is only a certain number of players that we can accomodate. Thanks for your input as it shows that you are interested in the Convention. Scotty

I spoke with John and he was trying point out that a bunch of the Big names are absent from the list..One has to and I'm sure all realize there are scheduling conflicts..John owns two Forums ,The Nashpro Pickers Forum and the Olde Pharts Country music Forum..One requires an invite and recomendation from Pro Pickers and the requirements are for one to have been at one time working in or out of Nashville. And to have been a full time musician..Both Forums are at his full expense and have a link to the ISGA and the big show..John a devout MM is a big supporter of All Steel shows..

Convention Sound

Post by DeWitt Scott »

Pearl Productions will be providing the sound system for the Convention again this year. Headed up Don Lanier we had many compliments that the sound last year was the best one in many years! We are lucky to have found Don to do the sound. He does sound for many other activities during the year and brings some of his ideas to St. Louis that greatly improves the sound. Scotty

Distributors

Post by DeWitt Scott »

Don, I haven't had the time list the distributors seperately. There are 75 or so of them. If you would send me a email at scotty@scottysmusic.com and ask me which distributors you would to see then I can reply letting you know if they will be at the Convention or not. Scotty

Joe Wright

Post by DeWitt Scott »

JOE WRIGHT has been added to the schedule and will perform on Saturday night. That is great news!

MINNIE PEARL - Or at least a tribute to Miss Minnie, will performing ocassionally between sets as the next players is setting set up. "Minnie" is a very young lady and has perfromed at the steel guitar show in Gulfport, MS. We have no idea at this writing how many times Minnie will perform. I estimate a couple of times a day but that could change.

Meet me in St. Louis, Scotty

Mr. Floyd,a man once walked up to a bandstand and asked if he could sit in. The guitar player who will go un-named but is a legend said to the man. "Can You Play As Good Or Better Than Us"? The man said NO. the guitar player said,
"Then Sit Down And Shut Up"
It may apply in this case as well. My wife is on that list.

John, my appologies sir. Sorry if I ruffled any other feathers as well. I just did'nt like that comment. Every player on the list is plenty qualified IMHO. I'll bow out now.

Not long ago there was some bitching about having the same players every year. Well now Scotty has added some new blood. Get over it, its Scotty's call.
Just be thankful Scotty provides this time for all of us to meet some of the Steelers we would like emulate. Beleave me Scotty and the crew works thier butts off to put this convention together and we have no right to doubt his motive's.

Looks like a great show to me. There are several players that I have never had seen on stage before (Hank Corwin, Phil Coontz), others that I haven't seen too often (Al Perkins, who was great last year) plus regulars like Ron, Doug, Russ etc.

...plus meeting again with old friends and making new ones...plus some great jams in the side rooms...plus talking nothing but steel for a few days...plus, plus, plus...

Who wants to complain???? 8) :D

Kind Regards, Walter

The convention is just a couple weeks away and here are changes and additions. Zane King had to drop out and I put Dave Easley in his place. Dave is an excellent player and comes well recommended. Country Music singer JET WILLIAMS has been added...Country Music singer Leona Williams will highlight the Late Friday Night concert. The players that will be present but on a non performing basis are Barbara Mandrell, Don Wardon and Bobbe Seymour. There is a lot of excitment that has been generated by the groups that will be performing in the Choteau room and it will be broadcasted live over SteeRadio.com. There are four of them performing - Friday and Saturday and they are free to people that displays their Convention badges. Johnny Cox is now coming and I feel like he will share the playing spot with his wife, Joan Cox.

WOW! This is quite a line up and this year seems to get better and better...plus all the music that will be playing in the Lewis, Clark, Field, Laclede, Soulard, Shaw and Jefferson rooms. Many pro players drop in on them to play. MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS! Scotty
