Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Greatest Palace Music

Post by Michael Witwicki »

Hey all,

Listening to a pretty incredible album by a great songwriter named Bonnie "Prince" Billy. The steel playing is absolutely gorgeous and I was wondering if it is being played by anyone on the forum!

If it is - wonderful work, your playing has made my week.

Man - do I miss the days of having ACTUAL liner notes in front of me so I could read who was playing on each track!!

Sorry, I'm not sure who's playing steel on that album, but I really love the Bonnie Prince Billie/Will Oldham/Palace stuff. He has a new album out that has a lot of steel on it too. Great music.

that is one of my all time favorite records and features MIKE JOHNSON playing some amazing stuff. Mike shows up on the forum every one in a while. This album was the one that 'pushed me over the edge' into "I gotta get one of these pedal steels"

nice to hear other people like it - you don't hear about it much

Yeah - this really is a pretty amazing record. I just went out and purchased his most recent on Nathan's recommendation. Already really digging it. It's funny how drastically different this stuff is from the Master & Everyone type stuff...which is where I first got turned onto his stuff.

I saw him in Santa Rosa a few months back. Great show, great band! No pedal steel on the tour, though. His guitarist is excellent! I believe his name is Emmett Kelly. Really good tasteful player. Definitely in my top 10 concert experiences.
