What a great day of listening to one of the greatest all around steel players -- Gary Carpenter -- trying the new Raines Steel Guitars. Steve Lamb (LAMBS MUSIC, Ft. Worth) had a number of steel players at his store to see and hear the Raines Steel Guitar.
All I can say is Bob Rains has now designed one great sounding steel!! The sustain and clarity was super yet with a sweet even tone. The bottom end was strong and clear. Frankly, I think it is one of the best sounding steels I have ever heard (it doesn't hurt to have Gary Carpenter playing it either)and I have owned or played almost every steel made in the last 30 years.

I played a couple of Rains steels at the Texas Jamboree, and was very impressed.
It's a modern steel guitar, basically in the LeGrande/Zum/Fessy model, very well constructed and finished. And it has a good pedal action with just a slight hint of resistance, which I enjoy and require. If I didn't have more steels than I could possibly play in two lifetimes, I'd seriously consider getting one.
And it's made in Texas by a Texan, by God!

I had a chance to see this beautifully constructed axe in Abilene in, I believe February of this year at an open house held there. I said then and I'll say again, look out this one's for real. It has a super tonal quality and one of the most meticulous constructions I've ever seen. It's made by a super gentleman also, named Bob Rains. Priced right it's certainly in the running with all the "big boys" in the industry. Just my $.02 worth, and that won't even buy a $.03 cent stamp, if they still make 'em.

Tom McDonald took some pics of Gary Carpenter playing a red mica and I'm sure he will send you a pic. It has an standard Emmons look at a distance which being an Emmons p/p fan don't mind at all. They appear to be well built and nice looking.
However, the key to me was the rich sustain and incredible string separation on both necks. I love the fullness of the bottom end strings. Frankly, I was skeptical before going to Lambs Music that it would be a waste of time with another steel company making another sell with 'more of the same'. As Gary Carpenter said yesterday after playing it for over three hours -- "If I didn't like it I would have been gone long ago!"

Sounds like things are really starting to take off for Bobby and the Rains PSG.
I have a beautiful red SD-10 with 4X6 on order now that i will be playing on the shows that i attend.Just wait till you see and hear this baby,i should have it in about 45 days,i can hardly wait myself.
The Rains PSG hit the pavement a running and your going to see a lot more from these guitars in the near future.You got a winner here Bobby.Bobby's phone # is 325-672-9716

Hey Rick,
Man after playing that old Rus-ler for 19 years that would be like given up my liver or gizzard or something.Its been retired for well over a year now and shes sleeping sound in the case.I'll tell you though im really excited about this new Rains guitar,they are by far at the top of the game.Wait till you see it at one of the shows.
