Frankly, Jack, I'd tell them you changed your mind or you don't want to mess with shipping overseas or something...
Too many suspicious goings on. It could be one of those scammer things. Please be careful!

Ernie, I think Jack is showing us this because it has become a well known scam scheme. It's just a method of baiting people. |

Interesting. I just had a similar email today.
I suspect if I answer it I'll be presented with the rest of the scam (send us the difference).
I just deleted it, but now that I see this post I dug it out to show you.
BTW, it's in regards to a mandolin I offered for sale two weeks ago on another forum. (it sold)

Overseas checks (even if they're certified or Cashier's checks), can take up to 90 days to fully process though the various financial clearing-house channels.
Should any one offer you this kind of "overpayment" deal, just tell them to send you the multi-thousand dollar check, and you will forward their merchandise and their "change" in 180 days (6 months). Since they know the fraud will be discovered by then, they'll be happy to go bother someone else. |

WEll there are a couple other things happening that more and more people are becoming aware of. One of three is the "Phishers" will send you a notice from 'support@(yourbank).com wanting you to update your information. This will empty your account.
Similar come with threatening notices from "something or other at ebay" and paypal.
NEVER click on those links. You don't even need to respond. Just clivking on the links can get you invaded.
Often it's a virus like program that has your puter send their puter all the info it can find about accounts, etc, or mail you've saved from ebay paypal, or banking.
Java apps are getting more and more the weapon of choice.

It wasn't me either!!
During the past two months I had two enquiries from two different parties in Nigeria wanting to come to South Africa to record. The second one I just ignored. The first enquiry had me going for a while until I decided to contact our local Government departments for possible info on the 'clients'. Fortunately I could put a stop to all proceedings.
So, be careful!!

A local guy got took exactly like this, on the sale of a dog. Cashiers check turned out to be not good. He lost $3000.00 in the process. He cashed the cashier's check, kept out his part for the dog, and forwarded the balance via Western Union. They don't want you to mail anything to them for fear of Federal Mail Fraud charges. |

Add me to the list also. I got email from Africa concerning an amp I have posted for sale. After figuring out the broken English I decided to stay clear of this guy and his client.

I got one from someone claiming to be the son
of a prominent prince of africa where he describes a village of his has been attacked,
and he is the only one left, except for a long lost nephew, and he needs money sent to a nigerian bank account to help him get schooling, or other assistance, and his message is always urgent. I deleted these messages. steveb Desert Rose Guitar 8+5 |
