Here is a video of my band The GoldDiggers performing at a semi-acoustic barbecue party last Sunday. We normally have bass & keyboards but our stripped down lineup worked pretty well for this gig IMO.

There are a few more songs I can provide links to if there is any interest.

Thanks everybody for the positive feedback. The Golddiggers are a very fun band to be in. Our singer, Ted O'Connell, often pulls out songs we've never heard before so we have to be on our toes all the time. These next songs are no exception.

Wagon Wheel

Turn To Me

Angel From Montgomery

BTW, I'm playing my main lapsteel which is a 6 string Supro Comet that I've had for a few years. It's got a set of NiBro magnets from Rick Aiello in it and sounds great IMO. I use G6 as follows:

D
B
G
E
D
B

I know that most people prefer 8 or more strings but I'm finding that I get everything I need out of this tuning. While I own 4 or 5 lap steels, this is the only instrument I play anymore.

I see that you guys are all set up with the Sun beating down on you. What was the temperature that day ? So many private home parties provide no protection for the band and you end up with sunburn or possible sunstroke. Doesn't do the insruments and Amps any good either.

Great tone and playing on your six string lap steel ! Sure beats dragging a "Pedal Monster" to these type of gigs.

It was around 85 degrees that day. I definitely did not like being set up in the sun but we couldn't figure out a way to provide shade. I always wear a lot of sun screen, though, so I didn't get burned at all.

Refreshing, So nice to hear a straight steel for a change, playing the whole board instead of mashing two pedals in a two fret spread, or to have enough gimmicks to keep you on one fret! Knowing where you are going, with a six string tuning, not a perpetual hunter that we see so often, makes all the difference in the world of the music we like to hear and play. After you play long enough, you learn when to back off and relax. I really enjoyed all the numbers! Jay Y.

Jay:.
Amen to your post.

The General Public who likes listening to a Steel Guitar for the most part cannot tell the difference between Pedal and Non-Pedal Steel Guitars if the non-pedal is played right. Sometimes Pedal Steel becomes so complex and so far away at times from the melody the listener will just tune it out.

Thanks again for your kind comments. I really love playing lap steel and am always striving to improve my playing. I'm also a guitarist and often play both instruments in the bands I play in. The Golddiggers are great for me because all I do is play steel in that band. There is nothing like total immersion to help get your chops together.

It was a really fun party. I actually played guitar in another band that performed that day. My friend Eric usually throws 2 or 3 of these events every summer. I've always enjoyed being a guest as well as a performer.

BTW, this particular Pork Stump party was the warmest one I've been to. All of the other ones were so cold that it was difficult to even play. Because of this I didn't mind the sun one bit.
