I had fun recording one of my favorite steel guitar tunes tonight. This is where my shortcomings as bassist and suitcase drummer are most evident.
Anyway, this a tune Buddy Emmons did call "Buddy's Boogie". It's one of the hottest tunes ever recorded and Buddy played it on a pedal steel in the 50s. I adapted it where I needed. Again, it's just a simple setup I have: 1 microphone and a computer with Reaper and an Echo Gina interface. Everything's done in a full take and then I punch if necessary. Took about 3 hours to lay down all the tracks and mix.
Clinesmith lap steel, Fender Telecaster, Michael Dunn Rhythm Futur guitar, Kay upright bass, American Tourister suitcase drums.

I appreciate your listening and your feedback. I'm on a roll because I've got some good stuff in the works and this is the fun in between.

How cool was that!!!
I remember one day in the studio we needed some kind of rhythm stuff and I did the old Elvis/DJ Fontana brushes on the guitar case. Everybody loved it. Your suitcase drums sounded nice also!! |

The pre-CBS American Tourister suitcases have the best tone but you can now buy "relic'd" version in three styles:
NOS: Just like your mom bought it at Sears in 1962
Closet Classic: your parents took it on only three trips. It has a few dings from that 20th anniversary vacation in Hawaii.
Roadhouse: an enraged chimp plays with it for an afternoon.

Very nice Mike!
I like the way you hang around the lower registers. It's hard to get good tone and clean intonation down there - you do a great job. Yes, the instrument helps, but you gotta have the hands - and you do.

Andy, I used 2 pieces of paper taped to the suitcase for a little more brightness. It's a mod I do to all my suitcases--hope it doesn't hurt the resale value .
