The guest of honor for the 2009 HSGA Joliet, Illinois convention is world class steeler John Ely!
October 8-10, 2009
John is an incredible non-pedal player and excels in all styles most notably Western Swing and Hawaiian. He spent a number of years as steel guitarist for the acclaimed Western Swing band Asleep At The Wheel.
John will play a set each day, perform during the Saturday night luau and conduct an informal discussion about his music, life and non-pedal steel guitar techniques on Friday evening.

Gerald,
I am looking forward with a lot of excitement to having John Ely as our featured guest artist at the HSGA Joliet convention. 
He brings a lot of versatility and really knows how to play Hawaiian style first class. Maybe his moving to Hawaii and playing all of those years there grew him into the Hawaiian style of playing Hawaiian steel.
He lived and played for a number of years on Maui and Oahu. When I first heard him, he was playing at the Outrigger in Waikiki.
John will be giving an expert Steel Guitar seminar at the convention which is included in the price of admission.

John Ely was the HSGA Joliet Guest of Honor in 2002. And anyone who attended that convention will attest to the fact that it was one of the best Joliet shows ever! I'm sure this October will be even better!
