The latest Fretboard Journal has a piece on the late mandolinist and tenor banjoist Paul Buskirk who had a long association with Willie Nelson and who was revered by the likes of players like Chet Atkins and Jethro Burns. I noticed that Amazon has his album Nacogdoches Waltz on CD for $3.88! It really doesn't showcase the fire-breathing musicianship he was supposed to have displayed but it's a nice, relaxing record. Nelson plays fine supporting guitar with not a warbly vocal to be heard.

When I was a kid in north MS Paul played for Smilin
Eddie Hill in Memphis. They had a daily show called the High Noon Roundup and then toured throughout the midsouth. They came to my home in Pontotoc and there I saw Paul Buskirk for the first time. This must have been around 1947. A super talent. The Louvin Brothers were also on this show. Lightning
Chance played bass and he went on to Nashville and played a lot of bass there.

Thanks for the head's up Andy. Paul Buskirk was a great player. I love his playing on Willie's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" album and on the Herb Remington albums that Rick Alexander put on cd. He also was on an album with Shot Jackson playing a resonator tenor guitar, I think it is "Dobro, Shobro and Steel".
I just renewed my subscription to Fretboard Journal this week, hope I didn't miss this issue.
