Just downloaded this and it is simple and effective.
No restrictions on usage or expiration, no registering required.

I'm using it to capture audio playing on my computer (ie YouTube) as an mp3. I then can take that mp3 and slow it down and loop in Windows Media Player to learn parts.

Check it out:

Click on Free Sound Recorder.

Enjoy!

According to the site (like you provided) this is only a 30 day trial version.

The totally free Audacity recording program is what many use. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Hi Jack:

Actually, there are no limitations on the Free Sound Recorder software. Says so here:

Not trying to take anything away from Audacity, that's a great program and highly recommended. You can do a heck of a lot more with it too.

On a related topic, I just downloaded the YouTube Downloader, which is another way to accomplish the same thing, but easier (takes a little more time though as it downloads the video file first).

With the Youtube Downloader, you simply paste in the URL of the video on YouTube and it downloads the video file into a .flv file. Then, from the same software, you can select that .flv file and convert it into a large number of formats, including .mp3

I tried it, it works great and is very very easy to use as well.

Actually, even if you buy the minimum product for ~$30, it still seems to be a good buy. Think I'll give it a try.

Not to be confused with Cool Edit (Syntrillium),
this is something with a conveniently similar name.
Cool Edit has been acquired by
Adobe and renamed Adobe Audition.

I've been using Total Recorder for a while now.

Works very well and has a few more bells and whistles.

Cheapest version costs about $17. Well worth it.
