Hey everyone. I have been thinking about changing the pickups in my Legrande 3. I want the Bill Lawrence XR-16's but dont know where to get them, how much they need to be wound or who to install them. Does anyone have two they want to trade? I have two Emmons 108-N humbucking pickups that I would trade? Thanks

I wouldn`t trade the the 108s in, even if I got new pups. I had them on a LG and they`re one of the best humbuckers around.
Also, there might be a problem:I had a LG 3 once and there wasn`t enough room for either Lawrences or George L`s.
Because of the the anti-cabinet drop device , I believe.

Olli is right. The pickup mounting plate on the Legrande 111 won't allow for the Lawrence pickups on the E9th side. You can't get the pickup low enough, to close to the strings.

The guys are right - the Lawrence pickups I've tried - with the plastic wide-mounting plate on the pickup - are too tall to get proper clearance between the strings and the pickup on a Legrande. Mine is an old SKH, but I think the problem is the pretty much the same on the newer ones. It fits under there, but I've only been able to get about one quarter's thickness clearance, not enough for me.

But I got an XR-16 from Bob Carlucci without that wide-mounting plate a couple of years ago - apparently someone had yanked it off (perhaps for this reason). At his suggestion, I just mounted it directly using Blue RTV Silicone gasket maker. Losing that wide-mounting plate gave exactly the right amount of clearance, and it sounded great to me.

I recently tried out an original Lawrence 705 on there - and you guessed it, it's too bloody close to the strings. I won't tear apart one of those old 705s - they're not made anymore and hard to find - so I'm putting the XR-16 back on. It's no loss - they both sound very, very good, but the 705 has an ungodly hot output when it's that close to the strings.

Yet another take.
