I sure do love Nokie's pickin' on this. Looks like mid 80's to me. |

what kind of show would this video be from? i get a kick out of it, and it's good, but i can't imagine what kinda show would have the ventures on it, let alone with skunk on steel. the guitar player doesn't look like a very fun guy... |

Quite the contrary, Nokie is a very "fun guy" who loves to tell jokes and play guitar. He's about as nice a guy you could ever meet. |

I'll vouch for that. Many years ago I was playing bass on a club gig with Johnny Meeks (Merle Haggard, Gene Vincent, The Champs, etc.) and Nokie came and played all night on Johnnie's Tele. Played great and told hilarious jokes. Came back two more nights as I recall. At the time I thought he played like James Burton with more jazz influence. |

yeah, wired does come to mind upon looking at this...i just posted for one because i had heard steely dan with the steel but never seen footage of skunk playing it...and because i dig the ventures as they were my first favorite band as a kid...is it any wonder with all that fenderish, reverbed twang that i got "involved" with steel in the first place? some things are hardwired in by now... |

Wired ? This is exactly what young folks don't need to be watching. Degrading to all of the steel players that are out there that are drug free and hard working. Wired folks usually make it to a cell, cemetary or a nut ward. I have no respect what so ever for anything or anybody that is drug related whether it's music or not. So many fine musicians have been destroyed by drugs and alcohol. It's a real shame. |

well...so you know...whether or not he was "wired" or not...our government has employed him as a defense analyst, well, at least he was during the Bush era...here is a link if you care to read... http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aa061801a.htm... |

unfortunately billy, i'm afraid you'd be extremely disappointed to have a list of which steel players, gods and legends, have been under the influence at one time or another....making them become what they became.
sort of like football, baseball and cycling! |

Hi Chris. This is my first e-mail to the forum. I love this forum and have enjoyed all the great discussions over the past few years, however I have a problem when a fellow steel player is trashed without any proof whatsoever of being ’’wired’’.
This is your opinion that has started a vicious rumor that Mr. Baxter is a drug addict. This is how innocent people get hung. I feel these remarks are slanderous and don’t belong on the Forum.
Best regards,
George Majoros |

that was not my intention, and i apologize. i agreed with mr ivey about his observation, and did not intend to trash anyone because of their enthusiasm for the music. i have no idea what the personal habits are of anyone, nor do i care really. i hope you can accept my sincerest apologies if i have offended anyone else, i love this forum and what it is set up for. |

Hi Chris. No problem. My comments were directed at Chris Ivey's e-mail. Still I appreciate your feedback. I too love this Forum and I most certainly do not want any bad feelings amongst it's members, so if I sound heavy I don't mean to be.
I just felt I had to say something. Thanks for talking about it.
Best regards,

no problem man, i have always loved steely dan and the ventures so i thought i would post to give people who share the same feelings a chance to see a rare clip...no offense taken and i thought you were just being honest and not heavy handed, and i wanted to reply to that so as to clear the air so to speak... |

yeah, me too. i didn't mean to accuse, ...especially not knowing anything to base it on. i was merely pointing out mannerisms that reminded me of things i've seen before. i'm no angel and i've been around much questionable life and musical styles and trends. i'm not putting it down or condoning it. it's what it is. no hard feelings. i just thought it was funny. kind of like living for 40 years in a musical scene as i have...not a responsible money making proper go to work do everything according to the book world like everyone else here i guess. |

Wired, high or not... that's gotta be my least favorite version of "Sleepwalk" I've ever heard. I love the Ventures and Skunk Baxter, just don't care for this version. |
