Only a bidder can determine what 'they' think the item is worth.

My guess: $550-$750.00...........a bit high on the end in my opinion. I've seen a couple of them go for considerably higher; some for considerably less.

Back in the fourties, in So Calif. this was the model Rickenbacher played by super player Ralph Miele. He was an excellent Hawaiian player and also played Western Swing with many of the So. Calif. Western Swing Bands. This is the first picture I have seen of this all chrome model.
Ralph always got a super tone on it and could really tear up "Little Rock Getaway".

I'm sitting here at work literally, in the literal meaning of literally, just below the "Price Is Right" Studio 33, CBS Television City, Los Angeles. My highest bid without going over is $899, Bob....I mean, Drew.

Wait--the amp, too? (Clean Silver Hawaiian, pre-war, OHSC) $1050. And that's too low but we're in a Deprecession.

Theres good condition Silver Hawaiian at the Guitar Center in Concord CA. I stop in every now and then to play it. They are asking 1299.00 with case. I have been tempted to offer $800, but I don't really need it. My B7 has cured a lot of lap GAS!

I couldn't find it, but I would almost bet this is the same set that sold on ebay for $1,500 just a few weeks ago. Completely mint, it appears.

I think the coolest things in that auction are the case, the tuners, the pickup, and the badge on the amp.
Seriously, I've owned several amps and guitars like that, the amps are mediocre at best and any pre-war bakelite blows away any Silver Hawaiian....nice case though.

When Leo Fender came out with the 15" Speaker Amps with plenty of watts behind them, it was a Godsend for Steel Guitarists. Most Amps before Fender were 12" Speakers and pretty gutless for playing in big Dance Halls and Auditoriums. If you cranked them up to their full power you usually got distortion especially on the bass strings. Back in the early days there was no "Board" where a soundman could conrol the volume and mix the sound of the Band.

Great looking Silver Hawaiian, clean ones are getting hard to come by, and when you consider the pittance it costs to get a clean one versus one that's been dragged behind the gravel truck it's a no brainer. My guess; it will bring $1200. or more.

Kind of ironic.

The excellent condition of this set should bring out the deep-pocket collectors, even in bad times.

I'll guess $1550.

I worked one one of those some time back. I wasn't impressed at all with the tone, or the sustain.
Like Cartwright said, a bakelite blows it away.
They sure look great though.

I'd say about $1200. It's a very clean set, except for those two broken tuners on the guitar. The seller spends a lot of time us how pristine the guitar is: "It honestly looks like it just came out of the showroom." ...but he doesn't say a word about the broken tuners. Oh Well Rolling Eyes

It's currently at $660, which means the bidders will probably jump in at the last minute.

I don't like the way eBay closes auctions while bidding is still going on. It doesn't benefit the buyer or the seller. You wouldn't see a normal auction where the auctioneer is standing with a stop watch. It would be a lot fairer if, once the closing time arrives, bidding continues until there has been no bid for two minutes. That would equate to the "Going, going, gone" in normal auctions. Many times I've been outbid with a couple of seconds to go. The seller could have got a much better price.

Here's a Bakelite version...

Those tuners are very hard to come by, and it's not because their great. I suppose with a little ingenuity one could fabricate some sort of metal replacement button, or just put on a plastic button.

I don't think that Bakelite is comparable, it's a post war model with the smaller size pickup. The Silver Hawaiin is from around 1936, just a different animal

Hey Alan......
You CAN SNIPE on eBay and often times Win hands down in the last breath of bidding.

Early on, the wife and I lost numerous bids in the last seconds because we couldn't get into eBay or anyone of dozen other reasons.

THEN, we learned to SNIPE like the BIG BOYS do, and we started winning, Rick after Rick after Rick.
The wife then informed me we had been entirely too successful and put an end to it.

They just up graded me so maybe it will be faster .
