Joe Baker in Hospital for triple bypass

Post by Billy Tonnesen »

I am posting this here so not to limit the post to Members only.
Alvie (Joe) Baker
I just got a call from Bill Black that our good friend and Steel Player: Joe Baker will be having triple bypass surgery on Monday. Joe was an active Steel Player in So. Calif. since the late 50's and was active on the East Coast prior to that. I only have info that he is in a San Bernardino Hospital and will have surgery Monday. As soon as I get more details I will post them. Lets all pray for a quick recovery for Joe.

Joe has been retired for several years and lives in Lake Elsinore, Ca.

Billy... Just a small correction. The hospital is St. Bernardines, on the corner of Waterman avenue and Highland Avenue. If you visit with Joe, tell him I said hello and good luck with the surgery.

Hey Billy, I had a gig this afternoon so when I got back at 9:00 PM (6:00 PM your time) I gave ol' Joe a call at the hospital and had a nice lengthy chat with him and Sharon. I had a bypass in April of 2000 so I thought he might like to hear from someone who'd been through what he's going to go through tommorrow morning! Joe was a good player and a pretty good old boy also as I remember. The last time I saw him was probably 25 years ago or longer. It was at a benefit at the old Pioneer Room in Norwalk and we were sharing steel guitar duties. I remember he had that D-10 Emmons which was a light purple color and I still had my old blue S-12 ShoBud.

Sharon said she'd give me a call when it was over and knew what was going on with him. Thanks for posting this......take care, JH in Va.
Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!

Jerry:

Thanks for giving Joe some support. I phoned him at the Hospital Saturday afternoon. Joe and I have kept close contact in recent years. Joe and I are about the only really old time players still around in So. Calif. Joe had quite a career with bands on the East Coast before he came to California. Joe is just a super guy along with his wife Sharon.

Talked to Joe Baker's wife Sharon this evening. Joe had a 4-way bypass heart surgery this morning and is now in the intensive care unit recovering. Let's say some prayers for Joe for a fast recovery.
