I think something needs to be said about the Terrific Staff band at Saluda.

Last February In Addition to the Flawless Playing of the regulars, Woody Ledford, Johnny Thomas, Wayne Smith, Bob Strickland, Wayne Stowers , Jim Hartley, and Jerry Reese. Guitarists Billy Puckett, Jack Mollette and Stephen Gambrell ably assisted all day long.

Folks , What needs to be said here is that in this group mentioned are some of the finest Guitarists in the Southeastern United States, One of the Finest Bass players in the country and This group of pickers along with all of the fine Steel Guitar players on the Show, flat wore out 3 very fine Drummers right down to a frazzle.

Its one thing to have a Steel Guitar Show with the greatest players in the world , but If you don't have a World Class Staff Band, The Show won't be its best.

This Staff Band is what keeps the Great Steel Guitar players coming back time and time again to Saluda.

Steel Guitar players from all over the country know when they come to Saluda, there will be good pickin.

This show is always full of surprises, What you see on the Announcements is what you get, but there are always extra players that show up unannounced and this is what makes for some very special moments. We love Surprises like this. Its like an extra scoop of Ice Cream on your slice of apple pie, that you weren't expecting to get.

Buddy always has a surprise, but he won't even tell me. Bill Stafford may have some of the Gulfport Ms. gang coming and he won't tell me.

Nobody ever tells me anything, because I talk too much. Image

Come help us make Saluda Steel Guitar Convention #70 a Very Special Show for Buddy and Charles. Two guys who have really gotten it right over the years.

Thanks for including me in that group of incredible pickers and beaters, John. Woody's son was playing bass in a rock and roll band with me almost 20 years ago, and Woody would sit in whenever we played locally. Woody toasted my butt then, and he still does Image I know this is a steel show, but if folks want to hear some remarkable 6-string playing, they need look no farther than Jack, Bob, or Woody! Sorry I won't be there this time----but if EVERYBODY, and I mean EVERYBODY WHO'S THERE, would walk up to Larry Moore, and tell him, "Steve says hello!" I'd really appreciate it. EVERYBODY!!!!

That sure is great company for me to be with. Thanks guys. Looking forward to this one very much.
Talking about Herby-I was most fortunate to have been able to record a session with Herby a few years ago. That album has been "out of print", so to speak, but it will be re-released again very soon. Some of the songs are: "Red Top", "Little Rock Get-A-Way", "I Left My Heart in San Francisco", "Beautiful Kahana", "I Was Just Walking Out the Door", "Old Shep", "Moon Glow" and my dear friend Ed Clark played bass and sang "Consider the Lillies" very beautifully. I will have this one re-issued soon. Thanks, and see you all in Saluda next month.

Bill Stafford

PS. Leon Rhodes heard we were in town to record some of his songs. He was a surprise guest in the studio and that was a delight for us. Especially when we recorded "E.T. Blues". (We were all very nervous too-lol) What a great legend this man has given us.)

Haven't heard too much from the Ladies and Gentlemen ot the Georgia Steel Guitar Association (AKA The Georgia Gang) lately.

These folks provide some wonderful music at all of the Saluda shows. They have been a big part of the success of this show.

I'm not gonna pick on Wayne Stowers or any of them this time. Just going to simply say thanks for all of the terrific help to Buddy and Charles over the years and what a great effort they have made for Saluda to become what it is. Some of these folks work gigs on Saturday nights and get home very late. They have to get up bright and early to hit the road to Saluda. Some of them are still worn out when they get to Saluda, but you can't hide real talent and it comes shining through each and every show on Sunday.

They are going hard all day long doing anything they can to help out. If Bill Ferguson can't make it for some reason (and he seldom misses a show), Roger Crawford or Larry Moore picks up on the MC Duties and runs with it. This kind of teamwork and support is what keeps things running smooth, show after show. The Georgia Steel Guitar Association, No finer Group of Folks on this earth.

It is certainly my honor to be able to provide this seat for such a worthy cause. In a day and time when so much has gone wrong in our world we sometimes lose thought of that which is so very important to us all...our fellow man...and our children. Especially those who need us so very badly. Buddy and Charles and all the folks down in Saluda are doing something worthwhile and I for one appreciate their heart felt efforts. They also put on such a great event for all steel players and listeners alike. Take a look at the lineup again. Is that a great deal in the making or what. The Southern Hospitality is the best you will ever see anywhere. John Floyd will be at the controls as usual so you can expect the sound to be perfect as usual. So come on out and play with us or give a listen...Even if you don't play steel buy a ticket for a very worthy cause and if you win you can just give it to someone...it's not about a seat...it's about what that money will be used for..

God Bless you all,
