I have to say I enjoy this Gents playing and listen to it all the time. Just like a hurdy gurdy or an organ grinder. No gimmicks, just real know how! Jay Y.

I was meaning to add this sentence to my last entry. (thanks for the patience & prudence). Just think had Buffalo Bob & Howdy had a Marionette like this sweetheart what might have happened! Jay Y.

Pretty darn good for a Carnival act. Maybe I'm just getting old. Love those marionettes.

I remember Hans and Fritz and the Captain and Mama, but I'm a little hazy on the rest of it, except of course the hopeless caricature of the native chief with the bone in his nose. Even as a kid, I just thought it was the most bazaar juxtapositions - Germans in the jungle, or on a tropical island, or wherever they were in the tropics.

David, I always took the setting to be German West Africa or Tanganyika, both colonies were siezed by the British during or shortly after WW1. Of course Katzenjammer sounds Dutch so they could have been Afrikaners too. Forgive me for getting off subject. I have always had a secret admiration for genuine eccentricity. This guy is all of that plus a pretty good performer. It is not easy to jump back and forth between singing and a tight melody arrangement. Is that a painted backdrop behind him doing On the Beach at Waikiki? If so, he gets even more stars from me.David Doggett wrote:Germans in the jungle, or on a tropical island, or wherever they were in the tropics.
