My fast picking is becoming stale. I don't know if others notice this problem from time to time. What I am looking for is connecting runs between pockets. Lets say you are in the key of C. Not to state the obvious but pockets are at frets 1-3, 8-10, 13-15. Now lets say you are on the F at 8 and want to go to the C at 3. I am looking for creative passing runs between the positions. I hear others doing it, I just can't seem to find them myself.
The other advice I could use is how to play licks when caught at a pedals up position. Lets say F at 8, then G at 10, then C at 8. I run out of licks when "caught" at the pedals up chord. I know the 567 B pedal rock, but that gets boring quick.
I know many of you out there have mastered this long ago, but any advice would really help me and probably many others also.
This kind of resource is one of the things that make this forum valuable.
Thanks, Jim |

James, try using passing chords, for instance if you are moving from a 1 to a 4 ,use an aug chord ,from the 1 to the 5 use a dim chord,on slow things these type of changes can be nice, also on uptempo tunes. Paul Franklins advanced speed picking. Teaches you to connect all the pockets. As well as scales that work with most any chord pattern. Also, he teaches you to make up your own licks. Not just copy the ones he teaches. Not sure if these are still available. I bought mine in 1990.A must have if you don't already know how to do this. |

Paul Franklin's stuff is great. Even for advanced players they are nice refreshers... |

Speaking of the Paul Franklin tapes, does anyone know where I can get the beginner and intermediate parts of the SpeedPickin course? I have the 3 Advanced speed Pickin tapes, but need parts 1 & 2 of both the beginner and intermediate courses.

I've found alot of Jay Dee's runs on the Sawyer Brown & Desert Rose albums to be helpful for this as well, especially going down the frets.
