Thoughts on Pro Tools 8 ???

Post by Mark van Allen »

I'm about to upgrade from the PT 6.9 I've been quite happy with to version 8, and would love to hear from anyone using 8 about pluses, minuses, glitches. Thanks.

It's a big improvement from 6.9. You'll spend a week just messing around with Elastic Audio. The interface is cooler, too, and they added some useful features that improve workflow.

Good to hear...we are at 7.4 here...our ProTools tech wants us to wait one more update before we put it on the HD rig--going to bump the 2 LE systems to 8 on Friday...

Considering you get 48 tracks and slew of free plugins, the upgrade is worth the money for that alone. A lot of great new features though, "playlist view" in particular very useful.

I've updated one of my LE systems to 8, and it has been moderately stable.
I will NOT update my HD rig until 8.1 !

Mark, I had pt 6.9 which I really liked, but I had to upgrade to protools 8 a couple months ago because my old computer died. I think pt 8 is a big improvement. To me it just has a nicer feel to it. There are a few things which may take some getting used to (for me the panning), but overall I think it's better. I really like it.

Best of luck.

Everyone I know was going to wait for 8.1. Don't remember who tried it first but the domino effect was quick.

I am loving 8... very minor issues. No more buggy than any other version.

Ptle 8

Post by David Winfrey »

I'm currently running PTLE7.4x on a PC with XP Pro, but will be upgrading to 8 as soon as I can find the time to do a full backup of my hard drives. The upgrade and new drives are already purchased.
From everything I've read it was very buggy at first with a lot of installation issues, but subsequently has stabilized in more recent versions. I can't wait - the improved midi editing will be a big help for me, plus the added guitar plugs with Music Production Toolkit 2 will also be very welcome! 8)
