Bless you Al! What a GREAT CONTRIBUTION YOU MADE to Vol. 1, Issue #1
I am glad you'll be doing a second piece for the June/July Issue, also! I look forward to seeing you at Bobbe Seymour's "Steel Guitar Nashville" when you visit the end of this month (April)

Mr. Wendt, If you're looking for a sure thing in the retail business, it ain't there my friend...In my thirty two years in a retail business, I have had to borrow funds a few times, in the early goings, to stay afloat...just put out your product, along with descent advertiseing, and hope for the best...Bi-monthly is a good decision, but I don't know of any newspaper or mag. with that kind of price tag...I do wish you success ....tom

Hi Terry,<SMALL>This would also include an upgrade in the print/photo quality.</SMALL>
I don't think you necessarily need to upgrade the print/photo quality, if that would contribute to the need for higher pricing. We all remember too well how the last steel guitar mag. got way over its head, financially, after deciding to "upgrade" the print/photo quality. I think most players want the info., and it doesn't have to look slick at all. If keeping the quality where it is now, would help you limit the needed price increase, I think that would be preferred.

No Jim,
My wife and I had to physically print each and every sheet of pages each of you who have a magazine are looking at. Our printer needed paper fed to it every 2 hours, so we swaped sleep and fed the printer paper for over three weeks solid just to print the copies to make the first issue. Our printer is only capable of printing about 200 copies (issues) per month (production capability) and then it is too big of a job for our size printer to handle. Additionally, the quality is not that of an INK PRESS process, but a laser printed process.
When the stragling orders topped the 450+ mark on this first issue, we had already started printing it on our laser printer. We worked day and night for over three solid weeks to get the overage printed for everyone.
The reason the quality will improve if we continue is because we would prepare the magazine like the first issue, but be forced to give it to an INK PRESS/PRINTING COMPANY to make the actual magazine.
This would automatically increase the printed quality of the photo's and text quality enormously... and it would all be completed in only a few days... then it could be mailed and received ON TIME!!!!
You see, I really have put a bit of thought into this. Unfortunately, the numbers in the steel guitar community are not high enough to bring the price into reason for everyone. I hope this doesn't discourage the masses. Even HOT ROD Magazine (color mag., about 150-200 pages, 25,000<+-> subscriptions) is around $9.00-10.00 an issue.
I can get the player's to assist me in putting an A-Class Magazine together for the steel guitar community... if "the community" will support it while it's at the basic ground level. I would expect that eventually when there were enough supporters the price would be adjusted to accomodate more readership.
I hope this explains my position more thoroughly
Thanks,
Terry

I'll be glad to commit. When do you need the bucks? I've been out on disability now for a month and will be for another week or two at the most. Right now, my family is barely surviving financially. When I get back to work, funds will become available within a couple weeks after that.
