Following the lead of the more competent East Coast steelers, I am shamelessly promoting my gig this weekend.
I'll be sitting in with Sweet Jeebus, who shares the bill with Wormwood and The Bootleg Remedy at the world famous Knitting Factory. The show is this Sunday at 10:00 P.M. We should be hitting the stage at about 11:15.

Lawrence, while you're knitting, I'll take a sweater in navy blue, size large.

Howard, I hope you don't mean a cable knit sweater. I hear they are unreliable and don't stay in tune well. No, for you it will be an all-pull pashmina. With a knit 1 purl 2 inlay. In terms of hot dogs, I tend to doubt it. Remember, it's a political benefit. I think any mention of "pork" would be taboo.

A little birdie told me that another forumite will also be on the same bill. Okay, not such a little birdie. A decent sized bird. Smaller, however, than Big Bird. Also with less feathers.
Should be a rockin' night of steel.

Something really interesting is happening... New York City is becoming some kind of haven for roots/country/old time/alt country music, I swear to God. Last night all three bands had steel players and upright basses, everybody played their hearts out and sounded great. It was a hoot to walk into the tiny side stage area and see three uprights sitting quietly in there cases, both Lawrence's MCI and my Williams steel waiting to go on and make a joyful sound.
A fun show for all.

| Smart move. I was in the third band and we didn't actually hit the stage until 12:00. It's kind of hard to have tone once you have turned into a pumpkin. Unless you mean orange, I guess. |

Mark me absent also....can't make 'em all.
Gerald, you are right. There's a fair amount of steel playing going on in NY, whether it's pedal, lap, or resophonic. There's also a lot of wonderful small pubs and venues with people playing it "their way."
One Saturday night I caught 3 shows...Lawrence's blues band, The Moonlighters with Mike Neer on Tricone, and The Jack Grace Band with Drew Glacken playing the tar out of a 6 string Magnatone. All these were in 3 different locations. Bumped into Nick who took a ride with me into Red Hook to catch Jack Grace.
There's no shortage of steel playing and fans in The Big Apple. |
