Mid Canada Steel Guitar Show

April 23rd & 24th 2004-By Billy Jones
Winnipeg: Once again, in the Howard Johnson Hotel, Wayne and Joan Link will be hosting one of the warmest and friendliest steel guitar conventions on the continent featuring some equally warm and friendly steel guitarists and experienced backup players. Great players like Al Brisco from Toronto, Billy Simmons from Texas and my personal favorite, Ralph Donahue, who opened the Saturday nite concert last year and set the pace for a fantastic evening. If I’m lucky, I will be able to share the stage again with my friend Joe Delaronde who actually built a steel guitar out of a beaver log but is also a very accomplished steel guitar builder and player who loves to experiment and present new ideas to his peers.

On Friday evening April 23rd from 7:30 pm to 1:00 am, there will be “Steels in Concert”.

On Saturday morning April 24th at 10:00 am, a “Steel talk seminar” will take place and,

at 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, a “Steel Guitar Jam” will follow.

On Saturday evening April 24th, Once again “Steels in Concert” from 7:30 pm to 1:00 am.

Semi pro and professional players will share the stage and the will be product displays you’ll want to see including CDs, tapes and videos.

Art and Rusty Alyea, the “Kentucky Hurricanes” will be there to entertain both nights as well. They are two multi-talented people you won’t want to miss.

Tickets are only a modest $20.00 a day.

In just a few days and I will be in Winnipeg for the show. Wayne and Joan Link have been faithfully promoting the steel guitar for many decades in Canada.

I'm looking forward to have the honor of playing at the show. We will all have a great time...looking forward to see Joe, Don, Wayne and Joan. By the way, the great Al Brisco will be playing also!

Hey guys, I don't even have to drive this year. Wayne Poffenbarger is picking me up at 4 am Thursday so we should be there approx 4 pm. Looking forward to a FAB timeout. I'm going non-pedal this time.
