For my money the Lucky Stars are the undisputed modern kings of pure western swing. Sage writes songs full of clever wordplay that actually make you want to smile (what a concept!). The soloists are all fantastic and the arrangements are mind boggling. The records are highly recommended, but the live show will knock you out with Pappy Stuckey the secret weapon on drums and occasional lead vocals. What more can you say about JW? If he had played back in the day he would rank right up there with Leon, Noel, Vance, Joaquin, etc. Sadly, they stick mostly to SoCal, but fortunately JW and Sage are both Denver raised and they do the odd gig here every couple of years. Can't wait to see them again!

Thank you guys for the kindly remarks. Ouch, this darn hat..
Olaf, glad you like the Lucky Stars cd's. Like Rusty said, we're working on the next one at breakneck speed! Tim, maybe we can get you to write our press release! And as for you, Peabody, you're much too kind! When's your next tour of the US? And your next solo record??

I was at the Lowell (MA) Folk Festival today with steel buddies Eric Stumpf and Rose Sinclair. We went to see The Lucky Stars and were not disappointed. This was their first appearance on the East coast, and we had been eagerly looking forward to this show. Their first set was magnificent, but then they turned it up a notch and blazed on the second set. Definitely the musical high point of the summer for me. Enjoyed meeting Jeremy and Russ afterwards. Both are as humble and low-key as they are talented. "Wow" is all I can say.
