Rick Alexander's hospitalization and passing

Post by Jeff Strouse »

I just got off of the phone with Rick's daughter. Rick has suffered a heart attack and is currently in the hospital. He will need open heart surgery for an aortic valve replacement.

He's in real need of our prayers right now, so please keep him in your thoughts for a smooth recovery.

Please see the post in Extended Family.

I got an email from Rick several days ago saying that he had played two gigs on one day, both outside and to quote him, "it really kicked my butt". He said he was going to take a few days off to recover. now I know why he hasn't returned my calls.

To say I feel a bit embarassed, is to say the least, now that I know the circumstances. While I have never met him, only emailed and spoken to him a couple of times, I must say that he is a class fellow and has been very helpful and understanding in starting this begginner out. I'm sure others of you have similar stories.

My brother of the same age, had a similar problem, while perhaps not as severe, he had chest pains. We goaded him into going to the hospital, they installed a stent in him, he's fine now. This is something for all of us to watch.

Get well soon, Rick, I know you will, Jim

I have never communicated directly with Rick but through my daily reading of the Steel Guitar Forum and his generous online instruction he has become a helpful and appreciated presence in my life. I hope he recovers quickly and my thoughts are with him.
