Words Of Wisdom

Post by Don S. Davis »

Since I'm a new member of SGF I want to thank You for letting me in the Fold!
If it's ok with you all I would like to start "WORDS OF WISDOM" that I would like to see all members contribute.
My opening contribution is-
"NEVER TRUST A SMILING DOG OR A NAKED POLICEMAN"!
Please respond with your "WORDS OF WISDOM"

My favorite; "If you want to hear GOD laugh, tell him your plans."

My Grandpa had a couple of odd ones that I think about.

1. "Be wary of anyone with two first names"..eg; Peter David.

2. This one came from him when he was concerned about who I was running with; "If you stand next to the outhouse long enough; pretty soon you'll look and smell like a turd." (It took me way too long to heed that advice).

Regards

Rick

The 3 rules of life, from Nelson Algren's novel "A Walk On The Wild Side" (1956):

Never play cards with a man called Doc.

Never eat at a place called Mom's.

Never sleep with a woman whose troubles are worse than your own.

As near as I can recall, I've violated only one of the three--most likely the same one as the rest of you.

Henry Thoreau had a pretty good on also:

Beware of enterprises requiring new clothes.

My Grandfather told me "never buy anything with a handle, because it invariably means 'WORK'".

When I asked him how you can tell the difference between 'Legal' and 'Illegal', he replied "If you cant tax it, it's illegal"

All of which I have found to be true

I complained about Human Nature but no one wanted to hear it, much less do anything about it.
