Fender question

Post by Jim Waldrop »

Did Fender ever make a single neck string master that looked exactly like the D8 string master or are these S8 look alikes just the result of someone taking one neck of a D8 and adding three legs?

Jim, the "single neck Stringmaster" was actually called a Fender Deluxe by Fender.
Fender only made short scale (22 1/2") Deluxes.

Of course, there are single necks that have been separated from multi-necks and had sockets and legs added.

Rick is right, it's a Deluxe 8. Nowadays a lot of sellers, and even some vintage experts, call these "single neck Stringmasters" (incorrectly) to indicate that it's the later Deluxe, not the early 1950s Deluxe 8, which had a very different design, same name.
