Pontiac -- Jay Dee Maness -- What's the connection???
With Pontiac going away, I thought it'd be fun to cut a little farewell video to "Pontiac Man", a song we recorded with Jay Dee a few years back.

I thought JD was into street rods? 65 GTO's are so cool.

Really cool video, great music....loved it all the way around. I met a Dennis Maness years ago who was in the music industry when I was just about 18 and still playin in garage bands. Any connection there?
Love my Pontiac although its hard to tell em apart from all their GM cousins nowdays.
Got a Grand AM, and a Torrent.
Good job on the video and song.

I might be a beginner now, but someday I'm gonna steel the show.

Stephen you should definitely sent that in to Car Talk on NPR radio. They would almost certainly air it behind the credits on one of their shows. Info at www.cartalk.com

Thanks for the nice comments, guys! It was fun to take all those old commercials, home made you tube videos, etc, and mash it all up together...
Peter--how are you, man? Now that you mention it, I think he did talk about that GTO when we recorded that track. That's the effect the song generally has on people, that's what I like about it.
Jim, that's a brilliant idea. Just sent it in to them. We'll see what happens!

I certainly relate to the video and Pontiac's demise. I still have the '64 GTO that I purchased new and used to take my new wife on our honeymoon (4-4-64)
. Howsever, overtime I modified the car to go quicker. I have a few stories and pictures at the following web site:

Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, Saturn going the way of the Oldsmobile. GM is getting demoted to Major Motors.
I had a '61 Catalina convertible that I sold because I couldn't afford to do the restoration it needed. But I loved that car. With the top down, I could just swing my leg over the door and plop down in the seat. Long and LOW!
Saddest for me is that "Pontiac" is a truly American name. A city and a car named for a Native American chief.
Good song and video. Thanks for posting.

Ben, you might be thinking of the Super Stock Dodge from "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena"
She may well have had 413 under the hood, because the hero of the song "Shut Down" drove a Super Stock Dodge with the 413 as well.
But that dude wasn't a granny:
"Yeah, a fuel-injected Stingray and my 413,
We're revvin' up our engines and it sounds real mean..."
Okay, back to Pontiacs!

Hey John! I'm mainly picking with Archie these days (the dates are usually posted on his myspace page -- myspace/archiefrancismusic). But I sure do miss picking with you! I remember a great live version of Pontiac Man with you at Ronnie Mack's a few years back!
How are you doing? How's the teaching? For anybody who's looking for a steel teacher in so cal, John is THE MAN!
