Re: Instrumentials:
The steel guitar rag thing is a joke many of us old timers used to use.Les Anderson wrote:Tracy; though that tune has been played by every steeler out there; the better players get more milage out of Steel Guitar Rag than the middle of the road players. I still like to listen to Buddy Emmons play the Steel Guitar Rag. Great finger work.Tracy Sheehan wrote: Some one should record Steel Guitar rag. Can't believe i said that.
A steeler friend of mine who was at the Golden Nugget with another band at the same time i was back in the 60s had HELP STAMP OUT THE STEEL GUITAR RAG on the front of his steel. It was a joke.As i also played fiddle i hated the OBS as much as b0b does banjos.
It was believed by many steelers and fiddle players the ones who requested those two songs didn't really want to hear them.
It was the only thing they thought of what to request.I enjoyed playing both songs my self the first 1000000.00 times i had to play them.
Again. It was only a serious joke.

Btw.
Think i posted this once but i have slept since then so not sure.
Back in the 60s also when i was playing steel in a band and Rufus Thibobeaux on fiddle,he refused to play the OBS.The club owner requested it.I took his fiddle and played it to save the job.
Rufus said if he had to play that he quit. And he would have.LOL.Loved working with that coon A$$.Tracy

Hi Dave, had a good friend from a show I worked on arrange the song, Hello, for the steel, and what a job he did, you can feel all the moves you can make in the tune, makes the hairs on the neck stand up, and one day I may get round to going for it.David Hartley wrote:I need some ideas?

David,
I think Neil Young's "A Man Needs A Maid" would be fine on steel. It was on his Decade compilation, not sure what album it came out on. I just love it, a lonely piano, the London Symphony Orchestra. A tale of longing for love; new and confusing life changes.

There is a treasure trove of untapped material in the Motown catalog.
Also, songs from Broadway shows like "Cats," "My Fair lady" and "The Sound Of Music."

Mike P. is right. Yes! There is a song in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webers broadway production of "Cats" titled "Memories." That song would be hauntingly beautiful on pedal steel. It makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck just thinking about it. The wife and I saw that production a couple of months ago.
Steeless.

I am not going to say what I will be doing and what ideas I like the best, BUT I am definately going to try one or two of these out. Keep them ideas coming please, they are great.
