Mike, I know you check in here every once in awhile, and this is a question for anyone else that might know:
Is Mike Auldridge using the Fishman Aura system for concert performances while playing his Beard MAS guitar, or is he still sticking with a microphone?
Mike doesn't play many concerts throughout the year, and I'm wondering if like Jerry Douglas and others, he has done away with the microphone completely on his dobro.
The Beard video from last year of Mike meeting with Paul Beard shows him being favorably impressed with the sound of his MAS unplugged with the new Fishman Aura Tusq bridge cap. _________________ Mark |

He doesn't use it on bluegrass gigs. He did use it in Dallas last month. He'll be using it at another steel convention/jam in PA later this month(?/next month.
He's borrowing a Fishman amp for that one.

Interesting, Howard.
It seems to me that Jerry uses it for any and all gigs, but Mike steers clear on the bluegrass stuff.
I wonder if that's because no one else in a bluegrass band is plugged in and they all play into microphones?
do you know if he has a different guitar that doesn't have the Aura bridge/pickup, or does he play the same one? _________________ Mark |

In a bluegrass config I have seen all of Mike's bands set up "1 voice/instrument = 1 mic".
Anything goes in other genre's.
I don't know which guitar(s) Mike uses. Maybe he'll chime in here. It wouldn't surprise me to learn he has a dedicated bluegrass guitar.
I don't know Jerry uses it for "any and all gigs". He certainly does for the Jerry Douglas Band. I'll get another chance to hear his rig on June 6. There are a bunch of us going to "pay homage" and to bring him some guitars to approve.
As far as Mike goes...anything he does is alright by me. I offered to press his jeans for him.....I don't think he approves of my ironing technique.

While I'm thinking of it...
Andy Hall (Infamous Stringdusters) does plug in for all the "Duster" gigs. Actually, if memory serves me, the entire band plugs in and wanders about the stage, playing off of one another.
Its a modern bluegrass band that uses all the tricks and technology. I think they are wireless also.
They are/sound fantastic. _________________ Howard Parker

A lot of years of dedicated practice to get those jeans to look like that...
AKUS has been off the road for a couple years, so if they ever go back out, I guess we'll find out if Jerry brings a mic with him again, but I predict he doesn't.
We can see if Jerry uses the Aura on its own with Bela, Sam, and the boys at Telluride this summer.
Any other JerryD gig I have been aware of, one example being the Paul Simon tribute in DC about a year ago, it's been 100% Aura, no microphone.
seems to me when I saw the Stringdusters last October at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass that Andy may have been plugged in, but still had a mike up there.
Cindy Cashdollar was playing with Dave Alvin, and you guys had just sent her a brand new MA-6, and she was going plugged into the Aura, no mike. And it took awhile to get it dialed in as it was literally her first gig with the thing, but after a bit it sounded great. _________________ Mark |
