Just a reminder of Chuck's Seminar:
Southern Steel Guitar Seminar-May 16 at the Saluda Shrine Club, Saluda, South Carolina. I will conduct an E9th Seminar from 1:00pm until 4:00pm on Saturday, May 16. Please bring your steel guitar, some amplified headphones and a music stand. I plan to discuss ways of working up steel guitar songs from sheet music, although you really don’t have to be able to read music. Instead, I rely on chords and their positions, a unique way to develop your ears to hear melody to play a variety of songs. I will illustrate this skill with three songs and some exercises to help you develop your own techniques and styles. I also will discuss improving bar technique, working on timing, developing steel guitar smoothness, and using delays to create a more full sound (if time permits). I will also show you how I work up my arrangements for the PSGA Newsletter. I plan to gear the material to players of all levels. In addition, to help make the experience more productive, I will provide you not only with the music and steel guitar tablature, but also with two CDs that are filled with the material that we will discuss. Included on the CDs will be my audio instructions, the rhythm tracks and the steel guitar blended with the rhythm tracks. That way you can leisurely take notes, knowing that the material will be waiting for you to practice when you get home.
If you are going to attend the seminar please notify me in advance so there will be enough CDs and lesson material for all participants. For seminar information contact me through my Email on the Steel Guitar Forum. Seminar admission is $50, and $5 will be donated back to the club.

Question? The Saluda show announcement always specifies "No Videos". Why?

If video cameras are not allowed, how come I see YouTube videos that were made at Saluda? I thought maybe the policy didn't exist at the time, but I did a search on the forum and the "No Video" comment was included in the announcements prior to the YouTube dates.

Just curious.

Saluda is a good place and good people. I've enjoyed myself the few times I've attended.

That I know of and Probably a lot earlier.
Buddy Walker Told Me once it was the wishes and request of the Nashville Pickers that they not be video taped and he was only following their request in order to keep them coming back.
Don't know how Videos were made and by whom, I haven't been able to get back to Saluda Since August 2004.

Video was allowed for a short time. That's why you see a few on YouTube. As John stated, the policy was put in place to honor the requests of the professionals. Some didn't mind, some did. To keep things consistant, it was decided to ban all video. It's not just Saluda, it's almost every show that I'm familiar with.

Looking forward to trying to make this one. I have only been to one and Chuck Lettes was the featured performer. I just rememeber how well he played and how well the entire show was. As always, knowing that the money goes to a worthy cause (Shriners) is always good. Going to try to make the Saturday night jam session too.

If The Person Doing The Videotaping or Recording is Ethical, However some are not.

Bill Ferguson Did the videotaping I believe and He can be completely trusted. He always has the permission of the artists concerned before he posts anything.

I used to record Whole Conventions and I had some that wanted copies for "The Betterment of Steel Guitar". I had some suspicions that some of those requests were not for the betterment of the steel guitar and quite possibly to better the requestor.

My policy was to provide a copy of each artists performance to the artist him or herself only and let them decide if they wanted it distributed.

I will not and ever have given away or sold someone elses work. Having been a professional picker at one time, this is a touchy subject with me as it is with all those who are dependent on their music as their sole source of income.

Now If You came to see me I would Cook you fried Chicken.

You told me one time That When You were Driving a Truck, You came to Sunbury sometimes. Only 20 miles west of me. You come up here and I'll cook you a Chicken Dinner. Very Happy

The Colonel has been sneaking around here trying to get my recipe. Very Happy

I have been building a New Computer Since Jan at $200 - $300 a month out of my SS Check and I'm almost Done, One More Parts order. I had to have something more up to date to do websites on.

However my Old Car needs work and I don't think it will make it. I did make two trips to Charleston, but that was a family emergency and it had to make it.

As For The Shave, I appreciate it but I think I'll pass on that one.

You guys always have a great show and I'll have to support it in my own way.

I like everything There is to Eat At Saluda but my all Time Favorite is The BBQ. Nothing as Good as BBQ In Central NC Westward, South Carolina and Georgia.

BBQ in Eastern NC, Where I live is more like Pickled Pork. So when I get away From home, I pig out on BBQ Pig. Actually there's no Such thing as Anything else as BBQ, It has to be Pig and SMOKED.
I can actually tell you where I'm at within a hundred miles by the Sauce. Very Happy

There ain't no bad food at Saluda!!!! Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

I post on This thread to try and help promote The Southern Steel Guitar Convention at Saluda S.C. not to argue with you. I apologize to Jerry Reece and David Christmas in allowing myself into get drawn into yet again another arguement with you.

Sometimes we lose sight of the main objective, So in the Interest of the Southern Steel Guitar Convention, The Shriners Childrens Hospitals and not violating b0b's hospitality.

I concede! That makes you the winner! Feel Better Now. Question

I cannot allow Jerry's Thread to be Hijacked into a senseless Discussion between You and I.

This Thread is for Promoting The Southern Steel Guitar Convention Whose main Goal is helping support FREE medical Care For the Kids at the Shriners Childrens Hospitals.

The May 16th and 17th Show has Chuck Lettes Headlining, Its Gonna Be A Great Show Folks in spite of Sam White Not being able to make it or maybe because he can't make it.

Please Visit the Southern Steel Guitar Website at

It didn't sound like arguing to me John, but just good ole down home ribbing.
Love to hear you guys, and thanks John for pushing this fine show. To me it goes deeper than the Shriners and children.
If you are doing something for children, you are loving God. You can't do anything finer than loving God and you can never out give Him.
