I just put on a Sample Song of Billy Robinson playing "Caravan". Which is on his CD #1
He is a true artist of the steel guitar. Let us what you think.

This is awesome and all that playing and NO pedals

After you click this link, then click the CD on his site. Give it time to load.

Thanks for looking
Danny

Danny,
Caravan doesn't seem to be loading for me, no matter how long I wait. I don't know why. Maybe a server is down, or something. Please give it another shot, and I will try again later.
I am a big Billy Robinson fan. In fact, I am just starting to build my first Robinson inspired, 10 string, non pedal. I also have Billy's CDs at the top of my birthday wish list, prominently displayed there so my wife is sure to find it.
Thanks!

Like you Don, it wouldn't load for me either. It may be a "Mac' thing... Can't be my web connection, I'm a beta tester for the new 50Mb/sec fibre optic system here.

Here's a DIRECT link to the file that's linked on the page referred to :- Click Here

DANNY: Why not put up a couple of links to Billy
Robinson's great playing when he was but a youth with the Cumberland Valley Boys,(Red Foley's band) playing a lap BIGSBY?

"I'm Throwing Rice" would be one excellent example of his teen-age playing abilities. "Somebody's Crying" is another exceptional example of Billy when he was in the peak of his form, IMHO.

Enjoy your posts immensely.

That album was done back when Billy was using a nine string tuning. The guitar was a "Slyde" built for him by the late Master Craftsman, Bill Merritt.

Shortly after Billy was inducted in to the ISGHOF, he called me and asked if I could restore the axe to its original condition, I figured what the hell, no pressure here!

He had a new 10 string Charlie Stepp built for him so I could take my time with it. It was a job! Lots of road rash! The guitar came out beatiful! I was lucky enough to track down the guy who did the laquer originally, A.J. Nelson. Billy was very pleased, Whew!

I kept the guitar for a few weeks and fooled with it quite a bit, great sounding horn!

I wish I had taken a picture of the finished product, Doh!

Thank you, Basilh. I have no idea how you do that.
And thank you John Drury for the information bout Billy's Slyde Guitar. I had no idea.
This is getting off subject, but does anyone know anything about Billy's Derby 10 string? Scale length? String spacing and gauges? PU? Pots? type of wood? Bridge saddle? Nut? Anything? I've only seen passing pictures of his Derby in videos of him playing, and can't get a good look. Being a custom, one of a kind, there isn't a photo of it on the Derby site.
Now I'm going to go and listen to Billy again.
Thanks again.

I only sat behind the Derby once, right after he got it. It is a one off axe, a Maple body, standard parts, roller keyhead, 24" scale, std. bridge, etc. std. Derby spacing. It also has a pad about 12" long. I can't remember what pickup Charlie put in it, and I don't recall any controls.

Billy was forced to go to a guitar with a roller set up due to the fact that he will pull several strings behind the bar to the max. He went from 9 to 10 to get the G on top. He comes up with some really way out slants with that long ceramic bar.

There is only one Billy Robinson, thats for sure!
