New reverb Pedal

lately I've been playing with the new Digitech "Hardwired" reverb pedal. It sounds amazing. It's my understanding that it is using a lexicon chip. So far the sounds are rocking. Lush verbs but still clear and quiet.

I've got that pedal on my guitar pedalboard. One of the best reverb pedals I've heard. I think there are a few here on the forum now using it with steel. It seems to be replacing Boss Reverb pedals for a number of people.

Oh yeah....got one a couple months ago. Can't beat it. As Bruce says, in addition to the Lexicon quality reverbs, it's totally noiseless.
Even when plugged into the front of an amp.

Question for any/all of you---I remember the earlier discussion and reviews of this pedal. I have always dug my Holy Grail and have often defended its reputation for being noisy. Well last week I was chasing my tail looking for the source of some unbearable hiss and discovered that it was the Grail. For some reason what was tolerable in front of some other amps was totally unusable in front of my newly rehabbed BF Showman.
So---if I love the sound of the Grail's spring, will I like the RV-7 spring?

Jon, RV-7 is hard to beat. I still have my Holy Grail somewhere, but I remember I returned it to the Factory( Long Island City)once.

I don't know it's power supply design is causing some trouble, I have no idea. It's a good box, but I kind of gave up on it after I got RV-7 few months ago.( thanks, Brad!)

You're welcome to borrow it to check it out yourself.

I'm assuming that the Digitech is the RV7. Yes the spring sounds great plus it's got good surf tones.

Have any of you tried the RV7 and DL8 together ? I am using the RV7 and A DD3 and they work well in my small practice cave. Don't have any hum or sizzle so far. I've never set up on a stage with them yet.

I've got some old 50's Fender amps and the alnico speakers tend to pick up any little bit of hiss.
Right after Christmas, Musician's Friend had the RV-7's on sale for $125 so I figured....what the heck.
Sure glad I got one. I've always liked the Lexicon stuff anyhow (& no hissing).

Bruce, I have one as well. Love it. The plate is wicked, but so are the other settings. I usually gravitate toward the plate because it is traditionally the most real-sounding of the pedal 'verbs, but the on the RV-7 the Hall, Spring and Chamber are equally as real.

The RV-7 really eats the other reverb pedals for breakfast, doesn't it? Fans of the RV-5 will go off their heads with this pedal. Way more authentic 'verbs.

Well, don't tell Greg Cutshaw. See his site for an A/B comparison with the Boss RV-5. He liked the Boss better, and I bought one based on his review. I only use it for noisy stages, but I like the Boss just fine.

I had an RV7 that I bought from MF as a scratch and dent. Everytime I touched it when it was on, it gave me a little static shock. The plate reverb was great, but the pedal had to go (thanks for the advice and communication on this Brad Sarno!).

Buy a new one if you're inclined to get one. I downgraded and now use a holy grail. When it craps out I'll look to get a new RV7.

I tried this pedal a week or so ago, thought it sounded really good. But have a question for those of you who own one.

How is the "reverse" setting? when i tried it, it seemd really quiet and weak. Granted this was a Guitar Center which isnt the best listening environment and I know reverse effects can eb a little weak sometimes...but just wondering if I was hearing it right. is it really weak and quiet on reverse setting?

I tried the reverse setting and it sounded weak as well, but I just attributed that to the fact that it is starting with the fade and coming back in. It was loud on the other end of the sweep. I don't really have a use for reverse 'verb, so I never tried it again.

oh its reverse verb? not delay?, somehow i was under the impression this thing had delay settings like the RV3 and i figured reverse was a delay setting. no wonder it was weak sounding, just like you said, swell comes at end instead of beginning.

Im kinda looking for a reverse delay to have in my arsenal and since this is a pretty great reverb pedal I thought maybe I was getting a bonus, killin two birds with one stone type deal. I guess i need to score a line6 dl4 or somethign else with a decent reverse sound to satisfy my psychedlic 60's sound cravings. truthfully I'd probably use the reverse delay once then never asgain...

The Line6 DL4 has a reputation for breaking, plastic sound, line problems... and it's on the pedalboard of at least half the guitarists playing modern rock (w/satisfied psychedelic 60's sound cravings). I guess it really must be the best thing for that particular sound - Israeli NY jazz guitarist Oz Noy kills at that stuff. It's hard for me to spend $240 for one trick, I can swell with a volume pedal (tremolo too, for that matter, with enough caffeine

).

David, Ive heard about those dl4's breaking down alot. That does scare me. Im not into the huge footprint or price tag either...but I do think it sounds excellent, and I like the ability to switch between presets. I think the unit is destined to be a "classic". Eventually I will score a used one for $125-$150 and hope it doesnt break down on me.

My DL4 broke on me, and so did my friend's. I have a Line 6 MM4 (phaser, chorus, flanger, trem, etc.) on my pedal board now, and that's acting up as well. It doesn't store the tremolo between gigs. Weird. And now more glitches are appearing. But sound-wise, the settings are excellent. The bias tremolo is very close to the Brownface circuit.

Try the Hardwire Delay.I have their reverb and delay pedals on my board; they sound great!

Speaking of holy grail reverb problems.I kept losing volume throughout each job, sporadically. First I thought it was the Blackbox tube, club power surges, amp then my Hilton.Drove me nuts as I had to floor the pedal to get a decent volume (barely) Turned out that many people (according to harmony Central have had this problem with the holy grail dying and fading! I took it off my pedal board and problem gone!!What junk! Only three days old. Back for repair than being put away. I'm looking at the Digitech now. Holy S**t not Grail!Grrr...
