Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone can help. I am relatively new to pedal steel guitar and need some basic tablature to back a guitarist singer, we are thinking of doing the following songs,
Rodeo Man & Some broken hearts- Don Williams
My old friend the blues- Steve Earle
Any other basic tab will be appreciated as well. I want to back the singer at the moment rather than to play too much of the melody,
Thanks in advance

This will be interesting......Can't wait to see what the guys will come up with!
.....And while we're waiting....I've offered to give a lecture disproving Einstein's Theory of relativity....I know nothing about the Theory, or maths for that matter. So, just give me enough info so I can fake it......Should be easy.

Stuart.
I've got a ton of tabs on my web site, all with sound files. Browse around and see if any of them will give you some useful backup ideas. Some of my tabs are entire songs, but many are very short and can be used to backup a singer.

Stuart:
I'm assuming you know the basic chord positions, pedals up and pedals down positions.
Herby Wallace has some excellent backup courses that provide you the intro, backup, turnaround, and ending for some basic country songs. You can find some of Herby's stuff here on the forum under 'Instruction'. You can also get the material direct from Herby.
Jeff Newmans "Up from the Top" stuff will help and you can find that under 'links' ,
vendors & instruction', Jeffran Music.
There's no easy way to learn backup except to get the material, study the chord progressions, and start playing out.
Go to Greg's web site and get his tab & mp3's. That will get you started for sure.
My .02C worth.

on most of the Don Williams material Lloyd just more or less padded chords and thats what made it unique and matched Dons laid back way. all the music is like don laid back and it all comes together that way. so if its a Don Williams song dont over play it just play the chords and it will come out nice. _________________ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvuH7H8BajODaL_wy3_HSJQ |

Joe is great at doing stuff for others. Also do a search for Don Sulesky on the forum and click to go to his web site. He has a lot of simple two and three finger 3 pedal and two knee stuff that is simple to learn quickly.

Many thanks to everyone who replied to my reqest.
Greg, I will be looking at your website over the coming months as it is an invaluable source of ideas.
John, I do know the basic chord positions, pedals up and down etc. I've spent a lot of time studying the different positions up the neck, but I've struggled to get playing against a backing.
I've been playing lead guitar for years and at the moment, I'm playing along with a singer guitarist but would like to take steel(which I built myself) along and play it to a few songs.
I have the Bruce Bouton dvd which is great for the nuts and bolts but I really just need something to get me playing with a backing.I play the chords but it just needs a little more. Is there anything available that might lead me in the right direction until I can begin to think for myself as I am doing on lead.
Joe, many thanks I am already working on lesson you posted. I am also looking at Don Sulesky as we speak,
