Gary, I will surely try to make this one . I was reading your post from the last jam that Marshall Looney was there, is he still playing the D-8 National?
I remember when Greg Zimmer had a show a few years ago that Marshall was there and I got to spend a little time with him and heard some history of his playing. He played a set with 3 other guys (with pedals)and did a great job.
It's a treat to see and hear some of our "Elder Statesmen" of the steel guitar play in the style of what used to be. If I remember right, he said he played a lot of Hawiian music also, maybe we will get to hear that sometime.
Keep us posted on the progress, looks like you had a great turnout for the last jam. My thanks to you and the club for all the work that goes on behind the scenes. |

Marshall was playing a double neck National. It had legs but no pedals. He played with two others, Wilson who played a C6 Sierra lapsteel with eight strings and another gentleman played an electric bass. They did a little over 30 minutes in their set.
Normally, the audience sits at the tables and listens to the players, with these guys, everyone was standing around them trying to get as close as possible. We mic'ed them through the PA system and turned the knob to the right so everyone could hear them. They sounded great. Gary can add more information when he see this.

I really enjoyed Mr. Wilson on his 8-string Sierra, and Marshall Looney on his D-8 Fender. Ididn't catch the gentleman's name playing the Telecaster bass. That's one of the 70's style bass's. |

Hello Walter ,we would love to see you . It should be warm enough for you to ride your bike up . Yes we are having some great turnouts for the jams . Marshall and Wilson did have everyone on their feet . They played some great oldies that everyone enjoyed . We will let them play longer next time . It was a blessing to have these two guys to be a part of our jams . They are both getting up there in age . We are having a lot of different brands of steel guitars making the jams and that's good to hear . We need to have a few ''ZB's'' at the jam . It would be nice to have your son Gregg at one of the jams but i know he is a busy guy these days . We are excited about the next jam as we have had some new players to ask about the jams and that's always great . It's good to hear from you and hope to see you soon . Best regards , G.P. |
