Thanks Slick, Twice. I don't know how many of you knew Mac Atcheson, Vern Kendrick, Vernon Maney or Charlie Stephen, but these were musician that everyone that knew them thought a lot of them, all four of these musicians passed away in the past year or two. Mac, Vern and Charlie were all steel players. I don't guess they come any better than Mac. To know Mac was to love him. I think he worked on just about every steel player guitar around the Atlanta area. Vern was known far and wide. I met Vern back in the mid sixty when I worked the Play Room. Charlie was kind of quiet but was a good player and had a big part in my musical career. Vernon Maney was a piano player that could keep the rhythm going better than anyone I know. This show will be in momery of these four great musicians. See you all at the show.

As a newbie, I have a few questions.

1. Will I be able to ask the great steelers there questions, and/or harangue them for tips and tricks, and/or beg for any advice in general, or will that make everyone angry at me, so I should just sit contentedly as an audience member and enjoy the show?

2. What is the cost of admittance to this event?

3. Will I be able to meet more of the SGF forumites there? Image

It sounds like a heckuva drive from Athens, but, it is for a good cause, and I would really like an opportunity to get to know more of the PSG players around here.

Edit: Whoops, found answers to some of my questions. I should try reading more carefullly. Image
[This message was edited by Chris Lasher on 30 January 2004 at 05:28 PM.]

Chris, we invite you to come and be a part. I know you will enjoy yourself. If you are like me you will ask lots of questions. I don't think that anyone that will be there will mind the questions. I sure there will be many players there who are members of the forum. The key to finding out who they are is to ask questions. I will look for you.

I have read the forum for a long time but never realized how many steel players we have in Georgia. I am glad we are well represented to the forum. This forum is one great tool for communicating not only with friends but also learning where everything is happening in the steel guitar world. Having access to this web-site is better than sliced bread. My hat is off to the master-mind behind this. Looking forward to meeting and making new freinds with all you guys I don't know who plan to be with us at our First Northwest Georgia Steel Guitar Show. See you February 8th, starting time is 10: o'clock. See you there

Early in this post I had mentioned the players that had committed, well as I thought I would, I know I missed one important player and that is Russ Hicks. Russ and his pretty and talented wife, Laney, will be part of the show also. I just hope I have not missed anybody else. This is gonna be good folks. The hospitals will make out on this one I know. Man, I can't hardly wait.

I ain't even going there. Image I'm way too old for a whuppin! Image
[This message was edited by John Floyd on 03 February 2004 at 07:56 AM.]

John,
Man you keep coming up with these names than take you back to yesteryear. First it was Harley, now Mickey. Son, you have dated yourself, and to top it all you were working a gig with Bill. I believe that was before water was invented. I'm glad I came along after that.

Jerry, you've put together a great lineup. In addition to all the other fine pickers you've mentioned, don't forget Dante Harmon. He's one of the great performers and educators in the idiom of Sacred Steel. I watched him recently as he taught a roomful of YOUNG steel players, most of them from Florida and none over age 30, I don't think. He let me sit in on rhythm guitar. If you can imagine 14 or 15 nonpedal steels, Dante on double-neck MSA, rhythm, bass and drums, and a get-up-outa-your-seat song that easily lasted a half-hour as the capper to the session. What a day! Don't miss Dante! (I'm worn out!)

Hope I make the next birthday and maybe a few more after that. Harley Sent me a picture of Him and his brother Ted, out west somewhere dressed as cowboys, Man did those two ever look old, me I look the same every morning when I shave. Ain't aged a bit. Image

John,
For real, Candy was a fine looker, just a little young. Her sister, Debbie, use to babysit my two oldest daughters. Those two daughters are 34 and 37 today so I guess you might say that has been a few years back. When Mickey got married the first time I was in the wedding. Hadn't seen Mickey in a number of years. I went to Nashville in 1967 and left in 1988. One of my daughters still there, she is the mother of my first grandson. I hope to see you when I come to Saluda, if you don't come to our show Feb. 8th.
Russ, looking forward to hearing you play and your lovely wife sing.

Wade, I can't wait to hear Dante! Tommy and I both love Sacred Steel. Will he be joining the GaSGA - I hope?

I'm sure Dante will join. I'll put a little pressure on him on Sunday (as if playing before THIS crowd isn't pressure enough). Looking forward to seeing you and Tommy this weekend.

You are probably busier than a one armed drummer on a Del Reeves song.

So I thought I would give you another Bump to the Top.

You are going to have a great Show, because all the elements of a Super show are there.

You have some great folks supporting you and theres no way you can have a bad one with the players you have lined up.

Ain't it great when your friends sorta gather in behind you and help support the Shriners Childrens Hospitals. Image

Makes you feel all warm inside , like you just had a bowl of Tootsie's Pinto beans.

No doubt Smiley will have enough gas for all. Image
