I watch and read the forum and enjoy the friendships I see shared. Many of you have worked together for years and have learned the joys of road life and the weird things we learn about one another. This is one reason I enjoy going to the steel show I get to attend. I've worked with a lot of you guys and have been a part of some of the jokes that have been passed along. Friendships are great. Come and join us at the next show we are planning to have February 8th in Douglasville, Georgia. Herby Wallace is one of our guest along with the one and only Smiley Roberts. Georgia is blessed with an abundance of great talent. Larry Sasser has helped us in the past an may be a part of this one, not sure if he will be able to be there for this one. Maybe. We do give the money we raise to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, I can't think of a better cause. Shriners spend over 1.6 million dollars a day in child care. Think about paying that bill. We are also lucky enough to have the support of all the local players and believe me the word local is not a word you take lightly. These local player are tuff. We are thankful for the support of our newly formed Georgia Steel Association. If you can come be with us February 8th I'm sure you will have a good time.

You always put on a great show!!! Tommy and I are excited about Feb. 8. And we're thrilled that our newly formed Georgia Steel Guitar Association will be there to support this great cause and promote membership to the new organization.

Our children are our greatest legacy. Let's leave them well!

Wish I could make this one, Our friend Harley Alsup is coming to visit me just before that weekend and I have to get ready to assist our Brother Buddy Walker in Saluda on the very next weekend. Haven't seen you, Wimpy, or Smiley in many years and would really like to be there. Just would be too much road time for these tired old bones. I know you guys will have a great show. Keep Smiley there for a week if you can stand him that long,<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_1_102.gif' border=0></a> and bring him to Saluda the next weekend. We would love to see you guys there. You have some great support there with the Georgia Steelers. Its been my priviledge to become acquainted with them in the past few years. Roger Crawford, Bill Ferguson, Tommy Dodd,Larry Moore, Bill Nicholson, and The two Waynes, Smith and Stowers, Great bunch of guys.

We are looking forward to your show. We always have a great time, and besides that it is nice to only have to drive 45 minutes to get there.

Really enjoyed your working with our band, Country River, this weekend. You were a welcome addition.

Man, I haven't seen Harley in many years, I sure would like to see him. Tell him hello for me. I'd like to visit with you a while also. I'm going to try to be in Saluda to support Buddy's show.
Bill, had a great time this weekend, love them old country songs. You played great, as usual.
Besides Bill Cunningham, Tommy Dodd, Bill Ferguson, Bill Nicholson, Herby Wallace, Smiley Roberts, Larry Moore, Tim Hamilton, Bob Farlow, Charlie Vaughn, Roger Crawford, Dante Harmon,Billy Morgan,Shorty Boyd, Gene Still and Wade Medlock we were told to add Randy Beavers. I feel like the south will rise again with all this talent. What more could you ask for?

Rise again? Were we ever down?!?! I sure hope we have the oppertunity to show some people who (heaven forbid) have never had the treat of experiencing true Southern hospitality what it's all about.

And a note about the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, unlike some charities who have tremendously high "organizational expenditures", $.98 of every $1.00 gets to the Hospital! Remember that when you see these fine gentlemen at your car window.

Jerry is also correct in his statement of having the full support of the new Georgia Steel Guitar Association. All members, those that have already regisered and those that haven't (we'll talk to you about THAT when we see you!), are urged to attend and show your support for the instrument we love and the people who play it. We would like to share with you the vision that the GSGA has to promote and educate for the continued success of our instrument. Be sure to stop by and see us.

If anyone wants to make a donation they can give it to any Shriner to go towards the hospitals, or send it to me and I will make sure it gets into the right hands. All donation are greatly excepted and appreciated. There is no such thing as a small donation. Shriner ride so that crippled and burned children can walk. E-Mail me and I will send you an address to make your donation.
Once again I look forward to hearing all the talent scheduled to play at the Northwest Georgia Steel Guitar Show. If you haven't made plans to come, please put this date on your calander and make it a date to remember. I have heard from some of our Alabama friends, I hope I hear from others.

Is is always a pleasure to play at the Douglasville Show. Looking forward to another Day of fun and Music.

Directions to Sweetwater Shrine Club

From I-285 take I-20 West past six flags and exit on Thornton Road, turn right,
You will go through 6 traffic lights; at the seventh light make a turn left on Bankhead highway,
You will be headed west towards Douglasville, you will go through 1 traffic light in Lithia Springs. Stay west on Bankhead Highway you will pass a trailer sales place on the right, just passed that there will be a lake and a cemetery on the left. Just a little passed that will be an old store on the left then a road that is on the left. The road is Riley road; this is the road where you want to turn. There will be a big Baptist church on the left and Greystone Power Company will be across the street. If you go past the church and power company you have gone to far. We are happy you will be joining us for a day of music.
The Sweetwater Shrine Club is on the right on Riley Rd.

Lots of truth in those statements, Dig Deep in those pockets and help out anywhere or anytime you can. If You know a Shriner, Just hand it to him, I guarantee that it will find its way to the Childrens hospitals.

Mike Sweeney is a marvelous addition to the show. I had not heard Mike play until the Chattanooga show last year. I immediatly bought his CD's and started stealing his licks (the one's I could figure out!). I guess I'll have to be careful what I play that day. It just keeps getting better!

Well, I am again looking forward to this great show. There are many good steel players in the Atlanta area that I'm sure you'll want to hear plus of course guys like Mike Sweeney and Smiley Roberts. My ole buddy, Charlie Vaughn, for example, I first heard Charlie play back in the sixties and thought I was listening to Jimmy Day. Again, anyone within driving distance be sure to make this one. Also, the backup band is great. If you haven't heard Jerry Braswell sing, you need to hear him also. I worked some with Jerry back in the sixties and early seventies. Also, as mentioned earlier, this is for a good cause in that any money raised at the show is donated to the Shrine Crippled Children's Fund, and believe me, there isn't a better cause anywhere. I have been a Shriner since 1979, so this has a special meaning for me as well.
I hope to see you all there.

I enjoy listening to someone play the steel guitar and I have many I can ejoy around this area. Herby is a freind from way back. As he said we work together back in the late sixties. He is one I enjoy listening to. I'm glad he make it a point to come and be with us and supports us as he does. I realize that most of the known player that do this for a living it is difficult for them to set aside the time to do all the benifits they are ask to do. There are many steel shows and alot of them are raising money for one reason or the other. Many of the known steel player are Shriners and they know how important the Shriners Hospitals are, but that don't mean they can give up their time that easy. I am proud that all the musicians in and around the Atlanta area are so supportive in helping the Shriners help children. The steel player are our biggest supporters and don't mind giving of their time. Smiley Roberts is another player that has helped us by giving of his time. To all the player that have helped us in the past and the ones that will help us with this show, I appreciate you more than I will ever be able to tell you, and the next time you see a cripple or burned child you can have the pleasure of knowing that you have had a hand in the treatment of that child. To all, we are looking forward to seeing you on Feb. 8th.

Why in the 60's, I wasn't old enough to even think steel guitar.

As Much as I pick on Smiley here on the Forum, I have to say that he is one of best people I know. Smiley isn't a Shriner, but he gives his time as if he were, And the Ole Phart will keep you in stitches. He is a show unto himself, or whatever that means.

Maybe I'm not as old as I feel. Where is this show gonna take place? I think I can find the road, from comming from Alabama. Maybe it is gonna be out in a pasture. I surely don't know. Someone from GSGA please help. Bill.
