When I was at the TSGA Jamboree in Dallas, I fell prey to G.A.S. attacks on more than one occasion.
One was this sweet National T-8.
I acquired it from Bill Stroud of BJS Bars, a true gentleman and a pleasure to do business with.
It's a 1960 model, and everything works perfectly.
Bill had recently restrung it before he knew who it would be going to - and by some quirk of coincidence or perhaps psychic foreknowledge, he installed the correct gauges for the very tunings that I use.
On the exact necks I use them on. What are the odds?
I have A6 on the back neck (technically A13, because I raise the low F# to G), high E13 on the middle neck and E7 on the front neck.
Kevin Brown played it in some of his performances at the Non Pedal Session (plugged into my tweed Fender Blues Jr.) and we all thought it sounded terrific.

I didn't actually play it myself very much until I got it home. I used it at a show I did on Hollywood Beach this past Saturday, and I really liked the way it played and sounded. It's fairly light for a triple, which is plus for my aching back.
Anyway, here is a video of one of the tunes from that show. The audio is severely compromised by the wind blowing on the camcorder mic, and by the helicopter that flew over partway through the song - but you can still hear the National.

That is indeed a sweet looking "Totem"! Seen very few doubles, that is first triple I've seen!

| Gosh that sounds really nice and warm. I used to have a double Totem, but it was really beat. But it had that sound and I wish I had kept it and restored it. Congrats on the new baby, Rick. |

Well Rick, I'd say the way that purchase came together it was definitely 'a sign'........., the strings, the appropriate necks, our friend from the UK that decided NOT to purchase it.
When those kinda 'happenings' occur, one just can't
ignore them and some bucks must be invested.

Good going Rick. Those old Nationals are great instruments. Here's a shot of my old 1952 Grand Console D-8. I think it's the best "score" I ever had as it was given to me by an old friend....JH in Va.

Hi Rick,
I'm so glad you like your new toy, I thought it had a great tone, and to hear you and Kevin play it took all doubts out. You gays made it sound great. The National 6 string was the first instrument that I got started on when I was 14 years old, and I've been partial to the Nationals ever since then.
I like their tone.
Enjoy it and it was a pleasure to do business with you.
