Hi!

Myself and my friends Paolo & Seb (Tricone swing and more: www.myspace.com/paoloconti) are after some contemplating now seriously aiming at coming to California to play as many gigs as we can this autumn, probably for 2-3 weeks around October-November. It will be a sort of "European lap steel" double bill gig Smile - gypsy Swing etc. from Paolo and Seb and Weissenborn tunes and singing from me.

We had first intended to come and play all across the US, but we realized it's a rather big country Wink and it would be a logistical nightmare to organize this ourselves, so we thought we start small scale with a little Californian tour. Smile

So far we have some contacts for gigs and local knowledge advice for San Diego, Claremont and the Santa Cruz area. If any of you guys here have any advice about cities and venues to play etc. that would be really great and very much appreciated! Smile Please contact me by PM or e-mail if you can help.

Many thanks!

All the best,

Fred

My best advice is do it for fun because you're going to have to fund it yourself and you most likely will lose money. that's just the fact of a.) touring and b.) touring with unknown music wih a non-mainstream style.

Hi Fred,

I checked with a friend of my that works at Gryphon Music here in the San Francisco Bay Area (Palo Alto) and he said the following:

He would be great at Mission City Coffee in San Jose (they have a very nice listening room there). The shows are booked through an outfit called Fiddling Cricket. I'll get his info to you when I'm at work tomorrow. Also, Don Quixote's in Aptos (I think it's Aptos...). Very nice stuff!

So on your spin to Santa Cruz, Aptos is very near and maybe you could do both gigs....Mission Coffee is also within 30 minutes from there....I fill you in on some of the details once Derek gets back to me.

If you're interested in playing down in LA I can equire for you a little, also north of San Francisco in the Napa, Sonoma, Healdsburg areas should be furtile territory....if interested I'll check with a couple of guys I know up there.

I look forward to meeting you if you end up coming this way.

Best,

james

Well, if I would have known earlier in the year, I would have suggested trying to work things around the California Festival circuit. The outdoor festivals are places that pay pretty well and that often do hire out of the mainstream acts. But it's way late for anything like that this year. They generally will accept offers between October and February. The 4 big ones I know of are Strawberry on Memorial Day, Live Oak on Father's Day, Kate Wolf on the last weekend in June and Strawberry again on Labor Day. You can find all of them on the web. And there are others. But of course you would have to weed out the Bluegrass festivals. The four I gave you are very eclectic. And they're alot of fun, too.

Hi Fred,

Also, since you'll be playing Claremont, Hollywood is only about 45 minutes west of there. Check out this place and the email for the guy who runs it.

Best,

james

Thanks everyone who've posted here and/or sent messages! Your advice and offers of help are very kind and much appreciated! Smile

We are currently putting together a little promo presentation pack to contact venues and promoters with. I will be in touch once this is completed.

We don't expect to get rich from this, what we hope to achieve is to see a to us new part of the world, play our music to people and hopefully break even (selling CDs will hopefully bring in some money too).

Thanks a lot!

All the best,

Fred
