I just purchased a new Alumitone 12 string pickup and installed it on my Excel U-12 Bflat6/Eflat9. I was blown away by the sound. Clean and clear across all twelve strings. Instantly, there was the sound I have been trying to find. Full bodied yet not muddy from high to low. Incredible sustain. The highs are full without being harsh.

Because of the way the 12 string has to be mounted, I had to change the shape of the cavity floor on my Excel. This may not be an issue for other guitars. However after I finished the mod, I could easily return to the old configuration if I were so inclined.

I highly recommend this pickup. You can get yours from John Fabian at Carter Guitars.

Very interesting. I'd like to hear some sound samples.

John,

You might call John Fabian at Carter Guitars. I am sure he will have some samples on his web site soon.

Michael, I have just received my Alumitone from Carter and have installed it in my Zum SD 10 Hybrid very easily with no mods required. I whole-heartedly agree with your comments. Excellent clear sound from highs to lows up and down the fretboard. Highly recommended.

Billy, I will look out for it. By the way, thanks for lending me your denim jacket in my hour of need in Dallas. I am sure if Anne washes it twice a day for a week it will be fine.

Mine arrived this morning from Carters ... no sign of a denim jacket though Billy !!! Laughing

I will slot it into my Standard Zum D10 in the next day or so and give it a test flight !

Carter is currently out, but they have a "sign up for notification" page.

Lace will have them in 4 to 8 weeks.

I played a few Carters in Dallas that had the Alumitones. I was really impressed by the sound. The guitar was real glassy right up to the top, and the sustain was great. Some of this could have been in the guitar's design as well, but I did notice a tonal change when I switched to the same model guitar that had regular humbuckers.
