What a curious amp!
Interesting tacking the Body or midrange tone after stage one
then bass and treble after stage two,
separating the lossy stages.
And most curious:
7199 Pentode Triode tubes as a Phase Inverter
NEVER seen that one.
And using a 6L6 as a voltage regulator AFTER a diode bridge! ???
It is not driving those 1st stages too hard,
since this ear steel amp didn't want any distortion.
There is an old LOW mu octal tube feeding without transformer
the reverb.
And another like 1st stage for gain make up before the PI.
This is one unusual unit for the era and in gneral.
I'd look around for some of these odder tubes and stock in a few.
7199's are not made anymore, though a 6U8 or even 6GH8 should work.
I just picked up a few 7199's and 6GH8's
in Bangkok for a 1st stage preamp I am building.
And see whcih I like best in it. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.

I'm pretty sure these aren't the same amp. The Sho-Bud Compactra was a tube amp made by Evans. The Sho-Bud Christmas tree amp was a transistor amp made by someone else. |

Jim,It's a transistor amp,I think it was designed by Kenneth Cain.As you can tell I don't know how to read a schematic.Stu _________________ Steeltronics Z-pickup,Desert Rose S-10 4+5,Desert Rose Keyless S-10 3+5... Yes sorry; I got confused, and was only remembering that I thought someone told me that....ah well...but yes the x-mas tree is transistor...and looks to be the dual channel schematic that Dave just posted.

Well that's cool too,
but I am happier seeing the Compactra.
I may try a couple of this unit's ideas.
And post a crosslink to an amp forum for good measure.
Maybe gets some good discussion about it going on. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.
