Does anybody know how to get inside the control plate located on top in between the necks ?? There are no screws holding the plate on and no access from underneath. Do you have to unscrew all the tone, neck switch and volume control holding nuts or pry the plate off ?? I don't have any problems yet with any controls but just can't figure how to get inside if I ever have to !! Does anybody know ??? Eddie "C" ( confused old geezer )

Eddie; I'm with you on this question too! I have no problems either, but; someday I'll need to know also! I think Ray Montee also owns one of these guitars and he might know the answer, but; right now he's heading to Dallas under “Star~Status”, but; he might Reply when he returns to normal~life! ha~ha!

Forum member Mark Durante may chime in, he used to have 2 of these.

Turn the guitar over so that the bottom is looking at you...there should be two 'plates' that hold the leg wells. Look at the back one that has the 2 rear leg wells(and input jack I think...I think you may be able to unscew these plates and remove them- this may reveal a route in the body that leads to the control panel where you can access the pots/cap from underneath. Does this make sense?

BTW, if anyone has one of these and wants to trade for a nice Fender dual pro with boxcar PUs, let me know *hint hint*. I've been wanting one forever but can't seem to find one...love the Fender but I miss the horseshoe sound, nothing like it.

I'm not intersted in a trade, because; I have other plans that I'm working on, however; I do plan to sell mine, hopefully in the not too distant future! But, I have another sale to make first. Keep an open mind and keep checking in the “Instruments For Sale” section. It all takes time to nogotiate!

Hi Jon , thanks for the input. I looked at the underside and there are 6 BIG HEAVY wood screws that hold the leg mounting plate and doesn't look like they would move easily !!!! It doesn't look like that would be the entrance to the controls but I don't know !! Hopefully someone will have a good answer. And Jon , BTW , I have a "pedal playing" friend that told me he has a Rick. DW-16 D-8 like mine. I'll see if he wants to sell her ?? Eddie "C"

Hey Eddie, thanks...see what he says.

Keep in mind i've never actually taken one of the plates off...just guessing because the input jack is mounted to it.. Not sure I see any other way in there.

Eddie, you do have to loosen the nuts on the pots and switch and then lift the plate off. It's been a while, but I think underneath is another plate that screws to the body. Anyway, I'm sure a smart guy like yourself will be able to figure it out from there!

I noticed when I first bought this guitar that there are several features on this particular model that are quite inovative and unique and weren't thought up by any dummies! The tailpiece is designed for either 6, 7 or 8-strings as well as the tuning pans! The only item that gives me second thoughts is the placement of the output-jack¿?¿ I guess they had to just put it where it would fit!

Thanks Russ !! That solution is the only one that made sense !! That wouldn't be too difficult , even for an old geezer like me !! I don't have to change anything now but it is good to know what to do if and when !! Thanks !!! Eddie "C"

It's a wierd thing for sure. You do have to remove the knobs, then the nuts from the pots. At this point the top plate will come off. Then there will be a second plate which is secured by screws either from the back of the guitar or will screw on from the top with four small screws, (under the top plate).
If there is any real interest I can take photos later.
The output jacks on the early ones came out the back side, then later it was changed to underneath
