I just started trying to use fingerpicks, and have a question about muting. If you're playing on 2 non-adjacent strings, what is the best way to mute the middle string/strings? If I'm on strings 2 and 4 for example, if I try to mute the 3rd string with my index finger, the pick slips and I end up inadvertently muting the 2nd string as well. Any suggestions?
Thanks! _________________ Zoom/Skype/Facetime lessons available http://www.atlanta-guitar-lessons.com

Muting that in-between string with index finger works quite well, once you get the hang of it. Just start slowly and you'll pick it right up. There's a nice example, with clear right hand action, played by Martin Gross at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSZn1b7hysI |

Man, martin uses his index more for blocking than for picking. He's got amazing right hand control.
There's obviously many blocking/muting techniques and imo holding a metal pick on a string while picking around it is challenging. Steve, I have a feeling that you'll master it pretty quick.
I've watched the KJP videos and he's a master at blocking. He uses no picks but I just attempt the same thing but with picks. Just makes it harder and a bit noisier. _________________ https://markmansueto.bandcamp.com/

So, Steve, how's the experiment with the metal fingerpicks going? Really curious to hear how that turned out for you.
I just finished watching a bunch of your YouTube vids and I must say you have a great style with just the flatpick and bare fingers, hybrid style. |
