The Mt Vernon, Il show

Post by Bobby D. Reed »

Well time is slipping up on us. April 16, 17 and 18 is not far away. It's never too early to make plans to attend. Advance tickets are now available at southern Illinois productions.com via credit card, paypal or check. The lineup will also be posted there within the next week. Here is a list of players already confirmed; Ron Elliott, Terry Crisp, Joe Wright, Doug Jernigan, Lynn Owsley, Scotty Henderson, Phil Contz and a special guest although not confirmed I believe to be there.
Vendor booths are available as is rooms at the Holiday Inn. There are also several other motels and eating places within walking distance of the Holiday Inn. Our old buddy Rob Parker will help emcee the show and there will be a host of great vocalists and guests. There will be some great local players as well.
Mt Vernon is located at the junction of Interstate 57 and 64. The Mt Vernon exit is the first one south of the I 57 and I 64 interchange.
We need the support of everyone who loves the steel guitar like we do if we are to keep it alive. Thanks in advance to all who plan to attend and your support. I look forward to seeing you there......Bobby Reed
P.S. I forgot to mention Eddie Dunlap, one of our finest up and coming young players who will also be there.

At one time I had family in Mt Vernon. Your post reminds me of what a great place it was. :D

I just want to add that one of those local players Bob mentioned is Joe Arview and Thunder, featuring Albert Svendall on steel guitar. They'll be playing on Friday night. If you've never heard Albert play, you're in for a treat.

The full schedule has been posted on the Southern Illinois Productions website, as well as ticket prices and a form so you can order them in advance and save a little bit of money.

Hi Erv;
I have not personally talked to the Holiday Inn about special rates lately however Don Lampley is booking a block of rooms tomorrow (Friday the 27th)and I assume there will be a special rate for all who are attending the steel show. That was the case last year and I'm sure it will be again. I'll contact Don after tomorrow and get more info. My guess is the rate will be $70 ish per night.
I'm excited about this year's show and the chance to meet so many folks from all around the country. Thanks again for your support....Bobby

Bobby, would it be possible to trade with someone in a later spot on thursday, We'll be driving in on Thursday Morn. Might be cutting a little close, but I'll try if trading is not possible. Thanks, Larry Remember, Jean DeVore will also be attending, if you could give her a little mention on your program. Thanks again.

This is a show that you must go to. Down to earth and many top name steel players on the schedule. I've played it for three years and I always enjoyed the courtesies that was shown to both me and Mary.

Don, I'm counting the hours. For my set I'll need a violin and horn section plus a concert pianist and if possible some cheerleaders. :P
