Does anyone tried Hendriksen Amp for pedal steel???
It's 160W at 4 ohm so we may like to have just a little more power, but EQ section is interesting.
For Jazz guitar, it's fantastic.
Love to know more about it. |

The single 12" speaker and "cubey" design make it something I probably wouldn't find practical, and powerful enough for larger gigs. Though it's purely a subjective judgement, they look "cheap" (even though they're not).
I find it curious that so many people look for something other than a steel amp for pedal steel guitar.  |

Danny, I got your point, but let me explain;
I have Webb, and in the past tried Peavey, they are all great as we know. But I'm looking for more "portable" amp... I do use Acoustic Image amp and it's great, but I'm not in deep love with that Pre-amp section...
I would buy Brad's pre-amp like Tonic in flash if I know what to buy for a portable Class-D power amp...
Yeah, sure, Alembic pre-amp is fantastic, and Brad's new one will be as great if not better, but I'm looking for power amp much smaller than a single rack space...
Why am I looking out side of the steel amp? Because there really isn't anything small enough and lite enough for me... or is there??

I played my dobro / Fishman /Aura through the 120 watt 10" reverb Henriksen jazz amp and couldn't put the power up past 3 or blow the doors out of the music store. It needs Sarno Black Box in front of it, but the potential is there. I wonder what the 12" reverb model sounds like with a steel? 20 LBs is crazy for that kind of volume and power. It bumps up to 160 watts with an extension speaker! I'm thinking this direction is where Peavey will be going next with their new steel amp.

Yeah, like scooping out around 800 hz, I don't know Henriksen is capable. But it was very good sounding amp with Jazz box through it.

Hiro, what form factor are you looking for? How small and how light? What speaker enclosure are you planning to use?

The way stuff is improving, you almost wanna wait forever....  all those years of lugging stacks, now they have 160 watts in a 32 lb. combo. It does strike me that a Stewart amp and a 1-space preamp in a light rack, and a single speaker cab can do this - those Eminence Beta-12's that Henriksen use are $65, one's on my short list. They're not even neodymium, so for another $15 for a neo speaker you can save 5 more pounds. (Though, the Beta-12 has better low-end response than anything else I've seen, US Speaker prints all the charts if you want to go looking). |

What I'm looking for( and always has been!!) is a small, yet powerful Power amp that can fit in my Walker ultralite pack-o-seat.
Acoustic Image Clarus 1R I use is like 200W@4ohm in to Marrs cabinet with 1501-4 with Neo. I'm not in deep love with the pre-amp section of the Acoustic Image even after Mid-range mod( moved from stock 650Hz to 750hz scoop).
Sure I was thinking of getting Brad's Tonic, and actually, there are many choices of good pre-amp out there. Alembic is cool, heck, I can have 1 channel of Neve Console as a pre-amp, but it's not easy to find power amp small enough at the rate we need.
I know I should forget about the whole thing and sell off one of Marrs cab. with JBL in it, and buy TC cabinet with 12", then the problem is solved, but I like Marrs with 1501-4 Neo in it...  |
