Me, Billy Walker band

Post by Michael Douchette »

Wow. A dear friend of mine sent me this link. It's a vid of the late Charles Lilly singing "Playboy," opening for the late Billy Walker. The late Danny Patton is playing guitar, and Richard "Sticks" Stikley is drumming.

The fat guy playing steel... well, he really needs to go on a diet!

(Dang!!)

Music hath the charm to soothe a savage beast, but I'd try a 10mm first.

Hey Michael,

A Real nice job. I've sure done at whole lot of Four and Five piece groups.

Ah, the good old days huh! :)

Thanks, I really enjoyed it.

Wow. Good music played by a good band. Mikey does just exactly what a sideman is supposed to do and with classic steel guitar madness. Every thing is great even including the steeler's shirt, but does that garment come equipped with its own batteries or do you plug it into the wall with a wallwart?  :whoa:

Very nice. There's a new name for a pedal steel, the "electric table." That works.

That's what every "country" band should model itself after.

Charly Lilly

Post by Don Drummer »

Watching tis video was so very bitter sweet for me. One of my early road gigs was spent with Charles and that 'ol piano pounder BB Secrist. Later on we did a 30 day tour with Everett Lilly, and son Mark. We played at the induction of Everette and Bea Lilly into the Massachusetts Country Music Hall Of Fame as part of that tour. The BB Secrist run was in the early eighties and lasted 2-3years. Charly and I hit off real well and experienced all the road presonal dynamics that come with daily exposure to one another. He was very competitive as was I and would have spirited discussions about music and just about anything else. Sometimes resulting in a silly bet about what the last road sign milage said. We turned the bus around to settle that one. Mike I' sure you miss the gang as you probably spent more time with all those guys in Billy Walker's band. I last saw Charly in '05 during a "Taylor Made" visit during the CMA festival. We all went out to eat stopped by his house and off he went to do the Opry show. I'll never forget that sunday morning phone call in May. Don D.

That was really tasty. Mike really knows what it takes to make the steel fit a song. That's why he has always been in demand.
