Let's credit Sonny Curtis for his solo on 'Rock Around With Ollie Vee' too. This, by the way, is generally held to be the first-ever rock and roll solo played on a Stratocaster - it was Buddy's guitar that Sonny played that day.

I'm with Ray. I enjoy all the '50s R&R music. I still have a huge 45RPM collection of the hits. Buddy, Ritchie and the Big Bopper were all top performers and personalities, in my opinion.

I stopped at my locker between class as a HS Sophomore and overheard some kids talking "Did you hear that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper were all killed today in a plane crash?" I recall one of them saying "this day will go down in history."

I guess it did as we're still talking about it 50 years later.
