Big Steel Show in Norwalk, CT Nov. 8th & 9th

The 30th Annual Pedal Steel Guitar Association show will be held on November 8th and 9th at the Doubletree Club Hotel in Norwalk, Connecticut. This will be the biggest show we’ve ever done. Confirmed steel players include: Randy Beavers, Jim Cohen, Sonny Curtis, Jeff DeMaio with Scott Tyler (twin guitars) and the Gunsmoke band, John Hughey, Doug Jernigan, Jim Roule, Dewitt Scott, Herby Wallace, John Widgren and the Western Caravan band, and Joe Wright.

This is indeed a great lineup. Nice to see that Jimmy Roule's on the bill. Jim belongs in that company.Wonder if he has his new "Fessy" yet?

Yes, this looks like the greatest show ever. The PSGA show is one of my very favorites, easy to find, great hotel with a friendly staff, plenty of good eating places up and down Conn. Avenue and of course plenty of good steel picking.
I'll be going down from Maine and bringing some of my gang with me, none of which are steel players. I guess they want to find out why I'm so attracted to these shows.ha ha

Come one,come all to the PSGA show.
This should be a super show and great talent to boot.
I'll be driving up from Florida, 1200+ miles for this one. Bob and his staff do a great job and put on one of the best steel shows in the country. So be there and help support the PSGA. I'm looking forward to chatting with some of my old friends I haven't seen in a few years also since moving to Florida.

I just wanted to add that I am again honored and pleased to be a part of this great shows. I have played this show many times and it is without a doubt one of the finest shows in the country. Everything is done strictly first class. Also, I might add that the backup band is always fantastic. The audience at this show is always one of the best anyplace in that they are very aware and hip as to what is being played. I am certainly looking forward to being back in Norwalk.

Thanks for the great response we've had from the posts on this forum. I've just received confirmation that Gene Fields will also attend for the first time, and that he is scheduled to play on the Sunday portion of our PSGA program. This is wonderful news, since Gene is not only a fine player, but dating back to his days with (pre-CBS) Fender, an authentic designer of the Fender pedal steel guitars. John,
The 50th year celebration you ask? As I understand it, it's in the planning stage and if we can get someone to set up our steels and help us up on stage you and I are to play a duet. But I told them only if you promised to slow "Rocky Top" way down to regular speed so I could keep up.

I agree this is a friendly intimate show and that's the beauty of it. It's big enough to have the top notch players but at the same time small enough to allow plenty of opportunity to socialize with them.

We better call the hotel now and lock in the special PSGA room rate. Merle

Looking forward to it again, Bob! Us Rhode Islanders will be there again to hear some great music and enjoy this exceptionally well produced show. With the great lineup of players, the super large video screen to show closeups of the steels, the fantastic backup band, the vendors and a nice hotel (and don't forget the "intimate setting"!).....well it doesn't get any better than this! Keep up the good work!

Wow! You guys are terrific. Thanks for all the kind remarks and comments. It is always a pleasure to meet and greet all our friends from New England and the Northeast states.

The 50th Annual show will probably be titled the Geriatric Special. We can plan to have wheel chair races to see who gets to their steel first. Goodness, I'll be 88 years old in 2023 (Good Lord willin').

Next Friday, October 10th, Mike Gross will feature his annual Swingin' West tribute show to the Pedal Steel Guitar Association 30th Annual Celebration. The program is heard over WVOF-FM in Fairfield, CT from 9 pm until Midnight Eastern Time and may be tuned in on the Internet at: http://www.wvof.org

Mike will be playing steel cuts on Swingin' West for 3 hours. He will feature the artists that are scheduled to play our show. Tune in if you are able, it promises to be a great show!

Hi, Bob - and John,

What's the rate at the hotel, or is it full by now?

It looks like I'm not working that week, and I'd like to make it - the last time I was there I still lived in NYC, so that has to be '97.

I hope to see ALL you guys there, including my friends in Western Caravan. Is Van playing guitar?

Roger: The special Pedal Steel Guitar Association room rate at the Doubletree Hotel in Norwalk, CT is $80 per night. There are plenty rooms still available, but the cut off date is November 1st. It would be great if you could be with us Roger. Don Sulesky is making the trip up from Hernando, FL.

Van Manakas will not be with us this year. He and his wife are expecting another addition to their family in early November, so he has to stay at home in Nashville waiting for the big event. We are pleased that Don Cerce Jr. will be playing lead for us the whole weekend. Don does a great job!

Well, I can feel the anticipation, already. This show's gonna be a barn burner!! We're all so lucky to be able to have an organization like the PSGA, with so many good and devoted friends. Without us all, and I do mean everybody in the PSGA, supporting the club, these great shows would never happen. Thanks to you all (ya'll) for your support.
Merle- I've given up playing Rocky Top, it took me 3 weeks to untie my fingers.
