I,ve taken the plunge into digital recording, just purchased a hand held Zoom h4 for rehearsals, and a Fostex Mr16hd-cd. Should be lots of fun and head scratching this winter.

Had an H4 for about 6 months here and I love it. I have used it to do quick recordings of my daughters new songs for rehearsals and for recording rehearsals of my cover group also. The extra inputs have made it very handy for recording off a board when I have done that also. I find you have to set the levels down a bit manually, but then the rough adjusters on the outside of the unit make things quick and easy. I use rechargeable batteries in it and have never had them go out as long as they are freshly charged up. Compressor and limiter in it are also handy and the mike emulation is pretty interesting also. I have not tried the multi track functions or the effects modules as I have a studio set up in the house and that stuff is much easier for editing and multi tracking.

Yes, be careful. This does become a money pit.
