Will be starting the "Wall of Steel" Fall tour with Doug Jones, and Renegade at the Kaiser Eagles this Fri/Sat. Replacing Art Bechtel, on guitar, who took a lateral career move.

We provide a fine playable Telecaster(tm) and vintage amp for anybody feeling "lucky".

Last night it just sat there looking rested.

Sept 26-7 with Jason Snell and the Last Ride, at Jubitz. My regular band.

Sept28-Oct2 will be the closing leg of the "Wall of Steel" with Doug Jones at Jubitz. Then opening for Dirks Bentley on Oct9, and Fri Sat 10-11 with Jason Snell.

Playing double steel with Doug has been a real pleasure, and I'm sure this last leg of the tour will be no different. My thanks to him and Renegade in advance should things take a different turn..

As they say., "What could possibly happen?"

I`m not playing Tootssies anymore,I made a lateral career move and will stay at home and watch TV ,I`ll make more money since wont have to pay for the fuel and parking ticket downtown, and with famous Nashville "tip jar" pay policies I`ll actually make more money staying at home.

I find myself and my friends fighting that all the time. There are indeed fights over it. It comes with he territory. Sometimes you lose.

It is indeed thankless, and hopes for a Union stepping in won't make it any better if the guys the union is "watching out for" don't even take their cards out of their pockets when they do it. How could they?

I'm always faced with getting paid less than I'm worth. My first choice, is not to do it. my SECOND choice is to go out and either MAKE an opportunity, and MAKE it happen.

Hell, there's lots of guys that couldn't even DREAM of owning their own truck, let alone making money at it.

You've got what it takes to do either AND both.

Hell. I'd pay a couple buck cover charge just to SEE that Super Pro!

A couple of nights sitting home watching TV will straighten you right out.

Watching Jerry Springer always does it for me....

I'm too late in posting this, but my weekend was noteworthy. All these dates were with the Derailers. Thursday, I was in Nashville at 12th & Porter for the Americana Conference Showcase. We did a show with The Del McCoury Band. Friday, back in Texas and played at Club 21 in Uhland, Tx (outside of Austin). We really didn't expect to have a big turn out, since the ACL festival was taking place in town, but we had a very nice crowd. The highlight was when Jason Roberts, fiddler from Asleep at the Wheel, got up and set in. He didn't have a fiddle, he just sang. We had a ball playing Buck, Ray, Wynn tunes. He's great singer if you've never heard him. He has his own CD out.
Saturday, was the highlight. We played the Austin City Limits Music Festival www.aclfest.com with a 5:15 slot. We had a huge crowd. It was perfect weather, cloudy with a slight rain all day. A real Woodstock atmosphere. I havn't seen the numbers yet. I'm guessing 30-40K. I got there early to catch several acts prior to playing. This is by far the best musical festival I've ever been a part of, and I've done a ton of them. IMHO, I like the ACL fest so much more than SxSW. The park where it's held is perfect. It's near downtown, there is no parking, but you park/shuttle, walk, or bike in for three days, and you pay $75.00 for all three days. That's a bargain to see so many great artists.

Eric, you are welcome to see and try this Super Pro anytime you want to.My band moved from Tootssies to The Stage and from Saturday nite to Thursday nite. There is no way for me to play Thursday nite from 6-10 get back home and be in bed by 12 and then get up at 5am and work whole day.Not going to happend. If they were playing Hag, Jones and Cash I can see myself doing it but not for this new crap. After listening the drums and screaming electric guitars for 4 hours I wouldn`t be able to sleep anyway.

Damir..

Lordy I know what you mean.

In the early 90s when I was 40 I worked hauling out at 7 am. It often meant working til 500p , sleeping til 830p, gigging from 9 to 2, and sleeping from 3 til 5 or six. Luckily both places, work, and music were within a couple miles. Once in a while I'd go straight to work and sleep in the parking lot til the asphalt plant started up. Sometimes I was so tired it wouldn't wake me up..

Sleeping two shifts is a habit I still have today. The music is down to every weekend and one five niter, besides making at least one 7 nite week, and all the days working lately. I'm doing two "days" for each "human day". In a way I feel lucky to live two days for "normal" peoples' one day, and often I can have a bad day or nite and three hours of sleep will make it "yesterday". However how being 50, it's just plain making me live too many days in a week.

What I do at gigs is not drink coffe after 10pm, and maybe take a tylenol pm an hour before I get off, then I don't stay up all wound up when i get home.

At 50 sometimes, in terms of days lived I suppose I'm 60 or 70.....

Love that S~B!

I'll be playing with a new group for me Saturday 27th at Whiskey Dix in Center City Philly. The group is Gas Money, which is about what we will make. We play original rockabilly and alt country and some vintage rockabilly and country. Check out the Gas Money web site for some cool tracks (before I started).

Eric, I've been there too. Back when I started in the '70s in Nashville I got up early and worked construction (high-rise concrete form carpentry) starting around 7:00. Got off at 3:30 and went home and took a long nap. Then got up and gigged til late. They say one hour of sleep in the day is worth 2 hours at night, and I have found that to be true. I went back to school and got a way better job, but I still try to take a nap before a gig.
[This message was edited by David Doggett on 26 September 2003 at 02:12 PM.]

While Ray is playing for the "cons" in Florence, I will be playing on the beach in Maui with my sweetie at my side and a Mai Tai in my hand. It will be so great to get away for a few days. Don't suppose there will be any steel guitar playing on Maui this weekend, but if there is, I will find it. Go ahead, feel sorry for me!! Image Image
