Lynn I am going to be staying in Siloam Springs during the week of February 1-6 and I was wondering if there is anyone that gives lessons in the area. Living where I do in North Dakota there are no instructors so I am learning on my own. I am planing to have my steel with me at the motel I am staying at so I can practice. Also are there any events going on while I am there that I could attend.
Thanks

Hi, Jeff. I'll relay your message to our steel club this Sunday. If you can't be there for our Jan. meeting, the SSSGC will meet Sunday, Feb. 8th, weather permitting. Our veteran steel players are always willing to help each other and beginners. You don't have to be a member to attend. Visitors are always welcome.

Our good friends, Ray Qualls and the KSGA, meet in Baxter Springs, KS on Sunday Feb. 1st. They are an awesome club as well.

As for private lessons, you will have to discuss that with the musicians. Members of both clubs are Forum members as well. Their contact info can be found here under "Search". Area musicians include:

Vance Monday, Bill Myrick, Ray Qualls, Larry Garrett, Virgil Pittman (Pittman's Music in W. Siloam Springs), Jerry Newberry, Jerry Roller, Ben Chesney, to name a few. I don't know if any of them give lessons, but they are all wonderful musicians, very generous and supportive of each other and their passion - pedal steel guitar.

Good luck!
Lynn

Hi Lynn,
I hope to make it to the meeting but I am playing in Kansas City Saturday night and will probably stay up there for the night. If I don't make it, tell everyone hello for me. Thanks, Vance

Hey Jeff, I went up to the last meeting and had a ball, they are all vary good and just like home folks. Some good singers and a good rythum. I am sure you will benefit if you show up sometime. I take some steel lessons from Jerry Roller, here in Ft. Smith, Ar. 60 miles So. of S.Spgs. If he has time, I'm sure he would help you out. I also get some help from Jerry Newberry, he is very good also. Ron

I for one am looking forward to the meeting. It will be the first in the new year. Jeff, Virgil Pittman's music store is in West Siloam on 412. He is very capable of giving you some pointers. Heck he may have something to sell you that you really need. He is closed on Monday and at noon on Saturday. Drop in to say hello. Hope to see everyone there Sunday. It may be a little cold outside but we'll have the coffee and cookies made.

Thanks for all the response, the forum is a great place to get information. It is amazing how many people are willing to help out when a person has a question even though you may be from different part of the country or world and have never meet.
Who can I contact to find out where in Baxter Springs KS the meeting will be held, I see the name Ray Qualls in a previous post is he the one I would contact, Thanks again for your help.

Jeff, you can call Ray at 620-856-3314 or me at 620-304-9661. We would love to have you stop by.
The folks at the Siloam Springs club are great people, hope you can get together with some of them.
